klovitt0171 9 Posted October 28, 2014 What amount of Protein should I be taking in at 4 months post op? I thought it should be 60-70 grams but I'm still losing lots of hair every day. Would love input.
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted October 29, 2014 My understanding is that you need the same amount that your NUT recommends. What was your target up to now?
klovitt0171 9 Posted October 29, 2014 (edited) Inner Surfer GIrl-- I had surgery in Mexico & back in Indiana now, I just see my family Dr for blood work now- I don't really have a program or anything to follow now. Kind of a lone wolf- lol!! Edited October 29, 2014 by klovitt0171
Mayaresearchmom 104 Posted October 29, 2014 My daily limits are as follows: Proteins 60 to 80 grams a day, but I stick closer to the 60 gram limit Carbs no more than 100 grams a day Fats no more than 30 grams a day, with at least 10 grams of "good" fats at one meal. (Olive oil, flax seed oil etc.) As for hair loss, I've heard that it levels off at about 6 months post-op. I've got about another month and a half to reach that point.... I'll let you know. klovitt0171 9 Posted October 29, 2014 Mayaresearchmom- thank you! I try to get in about 60grams as well but I was afraid it wasn't enough & contributing to my Hair loss. I hope I still have hair left in 2 months- I'm losing a lot each day & my hair is fine & thin to begin with. Ugh! I don't eat very many carbs but I probably need more healthy oils. I also bought a hair & nail supplement to see if it helps! Thanks for the info!
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted October 29, 2014 Many people have 60 - 80grams as a goal but it depends on where you start. Mine is 100 grams. Good luck.
klovitt0171 9 Posted October 29, 2014 Inner Surfer Girl- I think I might try to increase mine some to & see if it helps hair loss! Thank you so much! Good luck to you as well!!
ladypoohbear 123 Posted October 29, 2014 I'm 1year 4 month post op. My hair started thinning couple months out . It lasted for what seemed like forever. Last moth it almost stopped falling out. Got a good haircut. Much better. Surgery.is very stressful on the body. As your body adjusts it will stopped. And yes it will grow back. I'm on 80 g. Protein. Have a great day

Jolisue 112 Posted December 7, 2014 Hi! My surgeon wants me to consume 80 grams of Protein daily. It has been tough since going to normal food. The shakes make 80 grams super attainable. I take Biotin daily to help with hair loss. I'm 11 weeks post op tomorrow, and am not losing hair, although I hear it happens at about the 3 month mark, so I'm probably going to lose some as well. Since you are a lone wolf, you might get "The Big Book of Gastric Bypass." It has everything pre and post op you need to know. I read about it on this forum, so I downloaded it on my Kindle. I still refer to it.
jbauman13 9 Posted December 8, 2014 My NUT says 60-80 grams of Protein a day.
InspirationMySon 135 Posted December 11, 2014 My nutritionist said for life 60-80 grams for life because we will need it for "repairs" & sustained weight loss. I have found that it gets easier especially since I am not craving carbs or sugar. Unlike before I ate way to many carbs & not enough Protein.
