Catheter during surgery

Recommended Posts

I had 4 C-sections and my Appendix out. Got 1 every time and I learned after the 1st baby to ask for it to stay in the first day... Lol

When I was sleeved they kept it in for 24 hours so I wouldn't have to get up to pee, best invention ever!!! Lol

I went to the bathroom right before surgery and then a few hours after I was awake. They measured urine output with a pee holder in the toilet. I have no idea what it's called lol

No catheter for me. My doc says they don't like to use them as its a way of introducing bacteria into the urinary tract.

Well, I had my surgery Friday and when I was in the operating room, they did tell me they'd put a catheter in me as soon as I was out. Luckily, I never even felt a thing! By saturday morning, one of the nurses took it out of me and I was able to pee just fine.

It's called a "pee-hat." No joke :)

Yes it is!! They put one in my toilet too, and said I needed to fill it up.

I was in the hospital two days. The catheter was in for most of the first day. the nurse (a hipster chick named Eunice with big glasses) removed it at night. It was kind of fascinating to realize I was peeing and not feeling it at all. LOL! After that I had to use a toilet like a normal person. But, I was able to clean up properly down there and put on underpants. I'm not into going commando. LOL!

They left mine in until lab works came back showing I was stable. It was just incase they needed to go back in for any reason

I was scared the most of the urine catheter but it was not bad actually, I came out of the surgery with it and ... Probably 3 more for blood and IV. I was on them for 4 days and they pulled them out one by one and the urine catheter was the last (on 5th day) ... Didn't hurt at all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
