...an article about Al Sharpton and how he lost all his weight without surgery. Yet another public forum intimating that those who go the surgery route are doing it 'the easy way'.

I'd bet the house that this guy either had surgery and is lying or he'll never keep all that weight off. I remember when he was fat Reverend Al and no one that size keeps it off permanently. He was/is by his own admission, a foodaholic. He says he's consuming 1,000 calories without surgery and isn't hungry? I call BS on that. Or he'll put it all back on in time. And since he's kept it off for a while, I still think the man is a liar. The link to the article is below.

@@gowalking no way! If he says he is doing it all on his own then he is not lying. He is a public figure after all and they wouldn't lie to the public...would they? :o

Well, I am happy whenever someone does things to improve health. I am guessing he is like many on this forum, hate the stigmatism and know once you have surgery you are setting yourself up for judgment.

I didn't let that stop me... but.... I get it.

Who knows. It could be legit. My mom lost 150 pounds back in the seventies by eating salads with cut up hot dogs and cottage cheese for a year. Ugh. But like gowalking said, she didn't keep it off for more than a couple of years.

From what I've read on other threads, saying you didn't have surgery when you did is not lying.

Well it could be his age. I don't know how old he is but he looks like he's up there. It's not unusual for ppl to have a major change in appetite as they age (as in late 70's, 80's and on).

This made me think. We do hold celebrities to a different standard and expect them to tell all. They have a right to privacy too. But his explanation seems very detailed. More so than just dodging a surgery question.

OK so heads up I am in a bad mood today....

All this judgement passing by these public figures makes me think they are mad because their secret is out!!! Surgery is not something exclusive to celebrity anymore it's becoming something that more and more people need to help cope with the obesity epidemic.

Probably caused by public figures eating Twinkies and tell us that it was good. Gggrowl

It makes no difference to me whether he had WLS or didn't. However, I think his current eating regimen is ... weird.

Aside from that, I didn't interpret this piece as an "WLS is the easy way out" message. Here's the only mention of WLS:

"Sharpton has shed 60% of his much-mocked weight — and he did it without surgery, diet pills or a single Weight Watchers meeting."

Well, I for one, don't want to spend the rest of my life eating: 3 slices of dry toast, "green juice, " a banana, and a salad with a boiled egg........EVERYDAY FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE......... B O R I N G !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To each his own......... But, this old girl wants to enjoy my small amounts of tasty, healthy food, with occasional treats, including a piece of fried chicken!!!!!!!

I'm with @HealthyNewMe. I've watched loved ones eat crazy restrictive diets and have done it myself enough to say never again. My band diet is sensible and varied.

Well, I have lost over a hundred pounds in the last 9 months without surgery. I did it by only eating 500-800 calories a day, knocking out carbs, sugar, fatty foods, eating lots of Protein and doing endless exercising. And lucky for me I have this little stomach that will only hold a few ounces at a time. :P

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
