My skin is soooooo dry since being banded. I know it is because I eat virtually no fat anymore. I bought this stuff that I really like but I don't like what is in it. It is Dipping Oil, Mediterranean Garlic flavor.

I love the stuff but when I look in the ingredients it has various oils in there, not just olive oil.

If I were to get olive oil and put spices in there to make this stuff myself, what spices would I put in there and would plain olive oil work?

I was going to use it with my veggie chips in effort to get something in my diet for my skin.

Thoughts?

I also have very dry skin and eczema. I have found that one Omega-3 Fish Oil capsule or one Cod Liver Oil capsule per day helps. And of course there is no calories. Some people freeze these so when you take you are not burping up fish taste all day. Ugh!

I think extra virgin olive oil is good with black pepper in it. I think you could probably add some oregano or basil (fresh, if you have it), fresh garlic, or even some red pepper flakes, if you like zip.

Noooo, I don't like zip. Zip makes my mouth hurt and when you barf zip it is even zippier! Ouch!

This stuff is good, it has LOTS of stuff floating in there.

I use to take the fish oil capsules... I'm glad to know I'm not the only person who burped up fish taste.. I didn't know why that happened and it was so disgusting it wasn't worth making my nails look prettier!!!

I have extra dry skin (born that way), and a tip my g'ma passed down to me as soon as you get out of the shower, while you're still wet, lotion your whole body.. helps lock in moisture. Works for me.. if I forget, my skin is flakey and dry all day long.

And about the oil.. I love olive oil and balsamic vinager (heavy on the vinegar) mixed together to go with..anything.. meat, cheese, salads, breads, whatever. But I have tried blending my own oil dips for some family picnics, and one of the ones people liked most was just garlic salt with basil already mixed in, olive oil, salt, and pepper (ground with chunks).

What about pesto? Pesto is delicious too and you can make it or buy it with olive oil. Wonder how that would be on the veggie chips..

Ooh, pesto's wonderful.

Bubble, you could also finely mince some garlic, roasted red bell pepper, maybe some sun-dried Tomato, herbs, and stuff, and put it in the olive oil. That would probably be yummy.

Yeah, but it is supposed to be really easy to make. I think you just grind up basil, some pine nuts, parmesan cheese, and olive oil to make a paste. Or at least, that's how they've always done it on food network. I really think it would be one of those things that would be cheaper to make than it would be to buy.

Has anyone tried making hummus? I've never tried it, but I think I might try making some eventually.

Try this:

Get your EVOO in a small sauce pan, over very very very low heat (you are not frying) crush a few cloves of garlic and put in the pan. Leave them in pretty big pieces cause you are going to take them out later. Then you may add whatever herbs you like, basil, thyme, or whatever fresh is better. Let it all steep in the oil for 45 mins to an hour. Remember this in on very low heat. Try a taste test if it meets your approval remove from heat and strain out the herbs. Place back in the bottle, for future use. The garlic and herbs will infuse in to the oil, I have made dipping oils before with this method.

Oh yeah, not yet banded, but in the process of getting labs and cleared by my doc. Hope to be there soon.

Kacee, you posted my FAVORITE dipping spices! Those are THE BEST!

They are wonderful!

And I love to mix Balsamic vinegar and EVOO like Laura suggested.

Oh my goodness -- too funny. When I first started reading bubble's post, I thought she was talking about applying the oil on her face! I had to re-read the post - duh, I am sorry, I had a senior moment...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
