This may seem like a silly question, but is it possible for us to still get the flu? And if so, what would it be like? I'm talking the stomach flu, vomiting in particular. I'm 4 months post surgery and all is well, but was just curious. In the past, vomiting for me has been violent. I've gotten food "stuck" once since surgery causing me to vomit, but it was nothing like in the past. Obviously the pouch holds nothing in comparison to my old stomach, so hopefully it wouldn't be too terrible. Just a curious question.

Yes..... You can still get the flu. Viral infections don't know that part of your stomach is gone. If you get a viral infection, you will really need to stay hydrated. I've already gotten my flu shot this year, as well as a pneumonia vaccine. I'm not taking any chances.

Get your flu shot. If you get the flu, you will know it..chills, fever, aches and pains, etc.

I personally don't get flu shots for personal reasons. They protect against certain types of respiratory flu but not stomach viruses.

I had a touch of a stomach virus and it was pretty miserable but like you guessed in your post, it's not terrible terrible because there's just so much less volume to deal with. Even the dry heaving stuff wasn't as bad... maybe because the stomach is just so much smaller it doesn't have the muscle mass to cramp up the entire belly or something.

Got my flu shot today. I had the Flu last year. It was 10 days of misery. I am willing to endure any side effect from the flu shot if it could possibly prevent me from going through what I dealt with last year.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
