Carb / Protein / Fat % guidelines

Recommended Posts

I'm in my 7th week post-op. What did your guidlines recommend your daily carb/protein/fat %'s to be at this point?

I was told 60-80 grams of Protein but I wanna set my carb and fat % goals in MFP too.

My doc and nutritionist gave me a 75 gram Protein goal for the first 6 weeks then 85 grams after that. They didn't want me worried about grams of fat and carbs but did want me to get enough veggies. Since your doc has not given you a carb/fat gram what makes you think you should have one?

I use MFP and also aim for 60-80 gr of Protein a day.

Mine is set for 40% carbs, 25% Fat and 35% Protein . But weekly I am only getting a little over 1/2 of the Carb goal, and just over 3/4 of the Fat goal.

Protein I hit every day.

I hate that they make you set the carb and fat goals in MyFitnessPal. I would just set my Protein goal and dont worry about what the other 2 numbers fall at as long as they equal 100% totaled.

I use 55% Protein, 30% carb, 15% fat. However, I find myself going over fat and way under carbs most days. This is straight from my post-op instructions:

The primary source of nutrition needs to be Protein. 55% of all calories consumed should be lean, protein- based (eggs, cheese, yogurt, Beans, fish, meat, protein supplement powder, etc.) Carbohydrates (whole grain cereals, whole grain Pasta, brown rice, etc.) should make up only 30%. Fats (olive or canola oils, flaxseed oil) should only be 10-15% of the calories that you eat. hair loss, cracked nails and defective healing and immunity are just some of the side effects of inadequate protein consumption; not to mention difficulty losing weight. Plus protein makes us feel more satisfied for a longer period.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
