No weight lost. Is this normal?

Recommended Posts

I'm no my 2nd week of puree/mushy food and I haven't lost a pound. I dropped ten pounds post op on the liquids but not since I started mushy food. I'm not hungry and I know I'm not overeating. Could it be that I'm not eating enough?

are you losing inches?

are your clothes getting loose?

are they getting too big on you?

if so, then you are losing actual/real weight

regardless of what the scale says or does not say

keep doing what you are doing as it will soon enough

ps, dont weigh all the time if you are...look how you feel now :)

it will happen...hang in there

Stay the course. If you follow your plan your weight will start falling again. It's very normal to have a standstill or even a small gain in the weeks right after surgery. But it's more important than ever to follow instructions now. Don't worry. It's going to come off!

My suggestion is to not weigh so often, if you can't handle daily fluctuations and periodic stalls and plateaus ..... Weigh once every two to three weeks. You will see a weight loss.

This is a life time commitment, my friend from Queens (I'm presuming). Don't worry about anything just two weeks out. You won't lose every week, and you won't lose big numbers very often. It's the end number you need to think about. I've lost more than 145 lbs. and never lost more than 3 lbs. in a single week...and in fact, my typical losses per week were less than 2 lbs.

Just stay the course, and the weight will drop. You know it and so do I.

Good luck! PM me if you need to...if you are indeed from Queens, I'm just across the East River from you.

I had surgery 9.5 weeks ago and have only lost about 20 lbs BUT I've lost FOUR sizes! Keep the faith. And things will start to change when you get fills ????

Pay more attention to the non-scale victories than what the scale says. How are things fitting? How do you FEEL? Are you able to do something that you weren't able to do before? The scale will eventually reflect what you are seeing and feeling. Don't stress over that.

Keep up the good work! :D

Thanks everyone. I'm staying on point and I know eventually I'll see different numbers on the scale. I went down in pants size so I know I'm doing something right. I'm just concerned I'm not eating enough. I don't really feel hungry I basically eating to make sure I have energy. I guess I'm scared to eat especially I don't get my first fill until the 19th. @"gowalking" hi neighbor.

I'm on the same boat. Haven't lost a pound since I switched to purée food phase, even though I'm doing everything right (I hope). Hang in there, I'm sure the pounds will come off.

Off to measure myself, can't believe I didn't do it earlier.

I'm in the same boat. So glad you posted this since I have yet to figure out how to post myself lol. Started puréed/my shoes and haven't lost a pound all week. Glad to hear that is normal. I even started keeping a food journal just to make sure I wasn't going over what I should be eating but I've discovered that maybe I haven't been eating enough

Puréed shoes may be your problem. Check with your nutritionist.

I'm in the same boat. I was banded ten days ago and the scale hasn't moved (other than me kicking it). I, however, put on a pair of jeans today that still had the belt (closed) on them from before surgery.... And I had to move it in several holes. So as frustrated with the scale that I am, that totally made my day. I just try to keep on program and know that it will happen.

I'm in the same situation on the pureed diet and mentioned my frustration to my family today. I haven't lost a single pound since I started it, and when I tracked my calories I'm only eating about 1000 calories. That scares me because I think, "Crap, I had surgery and I still can't lose weight!" I guess we all need to focus on healing for now and maybe when we eat more Protein things will start to change for us.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
