What is your exercise routine? How much have you lose? When is the most crucial time to start?

Start as soon as you are cleared to Exercise from your surgeon. Start slow and ramp up as your stamina and abilities improve. I lost most of my weight by just walking 2 or 3 miles a day sometimes only 1 mile a day. I didn't even join a gym until after I made my goal of 100 pounds down.

Currently I am on a schedule four days on and one rest day and then it starts over. I cycle between upper body cardio and lower body For a period of 12 weeks. Then I'll take a break for a week or so and start back up again December 1.

I am 22 months out from VSG surgery and 105 pounds down and still losing.

I was encouraged to walk the first week after surgery, but to limit things like steps. I live on the 3rd floor of a walk up, so there is no avoiding them. LOL. but after 5 days the nutritionist cleared me for general cardio - no weights for six weeks. So I mixed it up. Treadmill. Elliptical. Bike. I worked my way up to faster speeds and more time on the equipment. Started off slowlt - 3 x per week. Then when I was cleared for weights I started lifting 2x per week (one of those days is a class). I also swam at least once a week (I haven't swam in awhile, my bathing suit is too big again. LOL).

I've lost over 100 lbs - I still have 75 more to go. I know that a lot of it flew off in the first few weeks, and I honestly feel that the working out sped it up. I also feel that it just generally sets you up for good habits in the future. I do know that if I do choose to have something bad, that I can go to the gym and burn it off.

Has anybody ever tried Water aerobics? Is that something you can do soon after surgery?

Water aerobics is fun and easier on the joints than land.

I was told to get moving ASAP. They even encouraged us to begin an exercise program pre-op. Thankfully I was already taking Water aerobics so I continued with this. Post -op I was walking in recovery. We were encouraged to walk in the hospital and I walked once home until I was cleared to get back in the pool. I also do the treadmill on occasion, but I plan to make that part of my weekly routine as well.

How long before you were cleared to get back in the pool?

2½ - 3 weeks out. I just had to wait for my incisions to scab and of course the drain incision took the longest. Meanwhile I walked.

That's not too bad! I'm not sleeved yet. I have one more Nut appt until they send everything in for insurance approval. My bmi is 58 so we are all pretty sure I'll get approval. I'm hoping to have it in January ???????? in the meantime I am looking for a Water aerobics class close by to start now.

I started the couch to 5k program and app about 5 weeks out. Ran my first half marathon a month ago after 9 months building up. I also do Vinyasa Yoga a few times a week and body pump type weight training and the occasional Pilates class.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
