Hi everyone I just had my lap band taken out and a revision to a sleeve almost 2 weeks ago. I don't know what is going on with me but this only liquid thing has me so depressed. It was a month with the band and for the most part I did fine but this time is totally different. The last few days I just feel like I have made the wrong choice. I have just been watching my son and husband eat and wondering why I chose to do this to myself, I don't feel normal now. I guess this is hitting me so hard because this one is permanent. Has anyone else felt this way and how did you deal with it? Thanks

I've had a moment or two where I thought. "Dang, this is permanent!" My fifteen year old asked me the other day if I missed being able to eat like I used to. I told him that every now and then I definitely feel that way but the type of foods I ate and the amount of food I ate prior to surgery just isn't ok...on any level. I compared to a heroin addict. They may love their drugs and the feeling they get from them but it is an absolute guarantee that they will end up dead if they keep at it. That was me...with food. You don't get to the size a bariatric surgery candidate gets to without having some seriously poor eating habits over many years. I told my kid that I realized that there other things that are more important to me other than eating a bunch of crap. Living a long healthy life...being an example to my kids...and enjoying things I've been avoiding for years matter to me. I am 2.5 weeks post surgery so I realize I have a ways to go, but I feel 100% better already. I have lost 20 pounds since surgery, I'm fitting into clothes I haven't worn in a long time, and I feel more energized. Food became too important to me for a lot of years and I am determined to move it way down the line in my list of priorities. I wish you luck. I hope with some success and weight loss you'll feel better about your decision. :)

I had my band taken out and a sleeve done 5 weeks ago. There was a point when I thought I would not be able to have it done because of unexpected financial problems so that made me want it even more. This has made me appreciate it even more.

Permanent is a good thing! You do not want to lose your sleeve do you? Turn the switch from depression to hope! Do not give in to the self pity thoughts that may be overcoming you. I happens to many of us just get rid of them fast, do not dwell in them.

You know you need this tool to help you get healthier. You also know that in 2 weeks you will be eating once again and will have a tool that will help save your life!

Thanks for the responses I hope it will get better It just sucks watching everyone else eat and feeling different and alone. I know I will get over it after I can start eating a little more normal. We were on the road this weekend and it was a pain to mix shakes and not just being able to grab something like everyone else. I will be ok it just will take time to adjust.

If you are two weeks out you should be able to transition to soft foods very soon, correct? And then it's only a matter of time before you are eating like "normal".

Remember, this too shall pass. You will not be at this stage forever. Believe or not I went to a July 4th BBQ one day after my pre op diet started. Had a good time and did not indulge. Ten days after surgery, with my drain still attached, mi went to a baby christening. It was a sit down, looked yummy, dinner. I took my chicken broth in an insulated travel mug and explained to my host I was recovering from surgery and unable to eat. I was supplied

bottles of Water all night long. At 8 weeks I went to a

birthday dinner at an Italian restaurant. I was still on soft

foods. I drank my Protein Shake in the car on the way

there, nibbled on some baked chicken while there and had

another shake wating for me on the ride home. I say all

that to say, all these events involved yummy looking food

and people enjoying it. Did I wish I could just chow down

also? Hell yeah! But I couldn't. I could of stayed at home,

but I didn't want to do that. I wanted to go out and have

fun like a normal person. And yes, I enjoyed myself at all

the events and several more I didn't mention. I know that in a year I will be able to eat normally, of course small portions, at these types of events. Right now I'm just so focused on the process of losing this weight. Hang in there. Before you know it, you will be able to partake of small portions of the family meals. Best.

You will not feel this way forever. My appetite is gone. food is fuel. It is taking getting used to but it is so freeing. Maybe someday I will enjoy my comfort foods again in small portions. But right now I have no desire.

I felt that way before surgery, thinking how I'll never be able to eat the same again. I am now modifying foods I like. I made wonton wrapper pizza so I get my pizza fix. One of them topped with pizza sauce, mozzerella, Parmesan and turkey pepperoni is filling for me.

I haven't made any regular meals since surgery, but I hope to get back to cooking soon.

I have had turkey taco meat with just a tiny bit of shredded lettuce and cheese on them. To get crunch I smashed up two tortilla chips on top.

You will still be able to eat what you like, but in smaller quantities. I have lost 26 pounds since surgery and already feel the difference, not to mention I've had my pants fall off a few times.

The smaller we become the less calories we need to sustain our bodies. Eating smaller amounts will soon become a regular part of our lives.

Don't deprive yourself, just take a bite or two and move on.

It is so depressing the liquid diet. I remember those weeks. Looking at the progressive stages from liquid to soft and thinking really 4 weeks? The sleeve is so grumbly until it heals. It will be a few months to heal. I fussed a lot in the beginning but now I eat a lot of yogurt and two shakes a day. The other meals I eat with my students then family I choose the good stuff Protein fruit veggies. A carb only if it is insanely worth it. Sugar never is worth it. I'm 10 months out:)

Im 2 weeks out too and have been feeling depressed as well. I'm hoping its a passing feeling but I feel your pain. I just want to fast forward a few weeks or rewind a few weeks and never have gotten the surgery, even though I know it was the right choice. I feel stuck in limbo at this stage.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
