receiving attention?

Recommended Posts

I had a situation today that I wondered if any of you have had to deal with. I try not to get attention. I don't like attention. I am glad that people know I am getting healthy. I am glad that I have changed in looks as I lose my weight. I am having to change how I dress now too. I don't want to spend money on pants as i get smaller so I bought a couple skirts. I wore one to church today. There were all kinds of comments about how i looked. I am ok that they are saying nice things. Does this mean anytime I wear anything different then what I have for years, will I get comments every time? Inside I am thrilled but I have always wanted to behind the scene not showy at all.Any advice would be apprecaited

I think the further you get away from your surgery, the less that will bother you. I think people are proud of your accomplishment and want to let you know they are supportive. It has taken me a long time to buy new clothes. For one thing, I had various sizes in my closet and then I didn't want to spend a lot of money on clothes I knew I wouldn't be wearing for very long. Check out goodwill stores or second hand shops. They are inexpensive and maybe you can still dress in the style you want. If you want to change that style, go for it. Be proud and enjoy your success.

As people get use to seeing a smaller different you, the comments should subside. I get comments all the time now but it's new people who have not seen me. I figure it's going to take a long time to get through everyone I know.

So true. As people see you smaller there is less attention focused on it.

I did have a few months where I was really dehydrated. During that time people asked about me, not to me, if I was ill. When I commented about this to my hubby, he did say I looked like I had cancer. Even though I was nowhere near my goal, I just looked very sickly.

I used to hate getting any extra attention. I felt like when I was much larger, it was for all of the wrong reasons and many times it was behind my back. I always hated when people would focus on my size. At first, I was never a fan of the added attention I got after surgery mostly because of the negative feelings and emotions I had always associated with it. Now, I use it as motivation on days when I am not feeling so good about myself.

There will be days on your journey where you just wont feel like you are progressing or have lost anything at all. You feel bloated and fat. It happens to all of us. Those are the days it always seems like I get a comment about how well I am doing and it always lets me know the I am on the right track regardless of how I feel. I now love when people notice me because I know people are seeing all the hard work I am putting in and it makes me feel validated.

My encouragement to you would be to embrace the attention. I know it may feel weird at first, but it is a sure sing people are noticing that there is something different about you in a good way. Your hard work is paying off.

Keep up the great work!

I have to tell you, I'm much like you in my thought process of hating to have attention drawn to me. I don't like to be the center of anything. I don't dress flashy, I prefer a more behind the scenes role rather than the lead. That being said, I Erik say that I've put in a lot of hard work, exercise, hours and hours of planning meals and making healthy choices. Recently I ran into an old friend whom I hadn't seen since before surgery. I've lost over 70lbs since she's seen me and she didn't make any comment at all, as if nothing had changed or she didn't notice the difference. After we went our separate ways, I caught myself feeling down because she hadn't noticed any difference. It sounds silly... but I think in a way I've enjoyed the little comments of recognition that I've been getting lately. It's affirmation that I'm on the right track and all my hard work is paying off! So while you may truly not like the fuss... it really is a great feeling to know that people recognize all your hard work!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
