Diet Salad Dressing for those who don't like SWEET?

Recommended Posts

Is it just me...or do ALL diet salad dressings seem to start with a sweetener as their top ingredient? Italian dressing and diet Italian dressing are nowhere in the same ballpark of taste. Are there ANY lo-cal dressings (Italian, caesar, whatever) on the market that aren't predominantly SWEET??? Like Protein Bars....HELLO! Yes, there ARE people in the world who would prefer NOT to live on CHOCOLATE/PEANUT BUTTER/VANILLA....can't you find them with things like oats and cinnamon or something like that? ARRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH:mmph:

I've wondered that before, too. I think the Wishbone diet Italian tastes pretty similar to the regular, but in most cases, I use so little dressing that I just go ahead and use the regular. Unless you are absolutely drowning the salad in it, I don't see a problem with it. And I really hope I never have to eat Protein Bars. I can barely stand most regular bars, I REALLY don't want to eat fake chocolate crap.

I like Walmart fat free italian and it's 10 calories for 2 tablespoons. I think it's good

What about mixing your own vinagerette?

And, I have bought the 'light' version of pre-made vinagerettes (the one with the fruity flavors.. like red wine, raspberry, etc.) and they don't taste any different, they're quite good. As for other diet salad dressings, I can't compare because I've never been a solid dressing eater.

Wow...so what DO you put on your salad then? Or do you just rabbit graze? I'm not that in love with veggies.....

Pre-band I ate steak-out salads for lunch quite often.. lettuce, ham, cheese, tomatos, onions, and vinegarette.

Post-band, I've tried eating a lettuce salad with vinegarette, and it was too tedious to eat.. had to chew one piece of lettuce for a full 2 minutes, and it still kind of hurt going down. So I've opted out of salads for now. fruit salads are still good though (but mixed with OJ instead of any form of whip cream).

I've found a line of salad dressings that are making me very happy. Walden Farms has a CALORIE-FREE line of dressings, some of which are creamy! Check them out in the refrigerated salad aisle. 0 calories, 0 carbs, 0 everything. The main ingredients are vinegar and Water, but whatever else they put in really adds texture and overall yumminess. I love them!

I mostly use Olive oil and vingegar with some fresh garlice or other spices in it. If I get tired of it, then I use regular dressing, I am not much on any of the diet dressings.< /p>

If I ever use dressing, I use just a smidge of regular Italian. If it is a restaurant salad, I prefer to just get them with a little cheese on them and leave off the dressing entirely. I only use it on the bagged salads that you eat at home, because I think they have a little bit of a chemical taste that needs to be masked. And when I do use it, I only use a small amount. I like to taste a hint of dressing, but still be able to taste the lettuce, carrots, and other veggies in the salad.< /p>

I can't eat ANY creamy dressings. I am extremely sensitive to tastes, and the taste and smell of creamy dressing really bothers me. Heck, I can't even use Condiments like ketchup, mayo, or mustard because of the taste and smell. They literally make me gag.

Is that post-band you lost the taste?
I've not been banded yet. I'm hoping that will change in July, though. I've always been a picky eater. For some reason, I am just particularly sensitive to flavors, smells, and textures of food. A lot of creamy dressings are mayo-based, and mayo has a really funky flavor to me that comes through the dressing. I can't even SMELL ranch or blue cheese dressings, though, without gagging.

I would not necessarily call them diet but Newman's Own light are not sweet at all. I "water down" the lite vinegrette with plain good quality balsamic to lighten up the calories. Good Luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
