November 2014 Lap Ban Surgery ????

Recommended Posts

Yesterday while I was eating dinner I got depressed because I started having that feeling of I am going to miss food. As you can see from my other post, I have been doing the Protein and liquids during the day and eating a normal dinner at night. End Quote:

I don't miss food... mostly because I can everything that I can still eat before being banded, except in smaller portions... much smaller portions. I've learned to eat slower, and to enjoy what I eat. A meal at a restaurant means a doggy bag, and maybe two or three more meals... instead of pigging out, I am able to enjoy a nice meal for the next few days. My band is probably set a bit on the looser side of the green zone.

Sometimes I'll miss a certain food (cheese and bacon burger) but I won't order one since I know I'd never be able to eat it or enjoy it. We took a cruise a few months back. I ordered a hot dog with the works and french fries at the outdoor grill. I used a knife and fork and only took a few bites of the hot dog and Condiments, leaving most of the dog and 90% of the bun behind. I was full, and completely satisfied. Three or four french fries filled me up, and that was that. That's what a band can do for you. You can enjoy food, in moderation. I was able to enjoy a two week land and sea cruise, and only temporarily gained two pounds, which were quickly lost.Being able to say no to junk foods like rolls and butter, and concentrating on good Protein foods makes a difference. I had some great meals, but I never over indulged, as I would have in the past. When you learn that you have to chew eat bite twenty or thirty times, and leave 30 seconds between bites, you will start to enjoy eating and appreciate flavors, without the need to be in an eating marathon. And being satisfied with a lot less food with leave you happier and thinner!!! The band doesn't mean you will deprived, if it is adjusted properly, and once you learn how to live with it. It means a new beginning, and better health, and you won't feel deprived.

These all seem to be appropriate feelings. I usually just lurk the post but wanted to let you know we are here to support you in anyway we can. And if it helps you can have 1 chip every now and again you just have to chew it up to mush. I haven't even gotten a surgery date yet and I'm anxious nervous and have all the same thoughts you do and I'm a nurse (the worst patients)

The chew on the chip until it is mush made me LOL????. Thanks I needed that.

What is your opinion on the Spotline Hydracoach Intelligent Water. The reason I ask is because after the Lap ban surgery we can't use a straw. This particular bottle is like sucking the straw so I'm concerned. What do you think. Bottlepost-225635-14151856095839_thumb.jpg

I am struggling today the weekends are really hard. I do better during the work because I'm at work and I'm very busy. To make things worse "Big Red" is coming, plus I have been sick. I just got finish telling myself you can do this, so I got up and got a Protein Drink. I want a bag of chips so bad right now. It is a mind thing. If I get to hungry, I have been eating eggs or broth with white chicken meat in it. Trying to stay strong.

@@Ldimples it's not forever. You'll eventually add foods back and I eat mostly anything now, just smaller amounts. I understand the advance grieving though. I felt that way last Thanksgiving.

Not being able to eat pasta last night made me very depressed ????. It even made me rethink about having the procedure. I went to my room closed the door and I survived. 10 more days, seems so long. I have lost 15 pounds already.

I wish I could show you a glimpse of your life next year at this time. Becoming banded was the key that opened the door to me being able to live again. The weight loss is tremendous, of course. But getting control over my uncontrolled eating was the first piece of the puzzle in putting myself back together.

My official pre op diet began eight months ago. Nine months ago my life took a devastating turn. My marriage disintegrated and I felt hopeless. I clung to my upcoming WLS as a life preserver. It was so hard to let go of overeating while I struggled daily to make sense of what was happening and what I was going to do. The grief and anxiety was so strong that sometimes my appetite was literally gone. It was not pleasant.

I knew that getting control in my otherwise out of control situation was necessary. It was my motivation. It worked. I made it through the pre op and the surgery and the post op six week liquid diet. I exercised. I followed the rules. I was desperate. It was hard but with every success it was easier. With every victory over old habits I grew stronger. I found my power. I was powerful and it had been buried under binging and despair. I found my power. I unleashed that power. I nurtured that power. I feed that power today. I am so much stronger than I was nine months ago. Ha! I feel like I birthed a new me during these nine months.

WLS was the necessary tool I needed to stop binging and start taking control. Health is my new addiction. I am addicted to self care. Self love. Self protection. Self preservation. I won't give away this power again.

You don't know this yet but nine months from now you will be a new person and you will be telling your story of struggle and conquest to a newbie.

I am proud of you. Believe. It is going to happen.

@@JustWatchMe During the pre-op liquid diet stage most of us had a very bad headache (I did ????), can you tell me if after the surgery do you still have a headache from not eating much. The headache was the worst of the pre-op liquid diet.

Ldimples

Wow that is soon! Good luck on the last few days of liquids. I was so happy to have Tomato Soup after surgery which was not allowed on the pre op diet.

Surgery went well yesterday. The night was hard. They have you up every two hours to walk, for real. Was nauseous and dizzy from the pain medication. So I stopped taking it. Being nauseous and dizzy was worse than the pain. Going for a upper G.I test in a few and be able to go home by 1pm today. Glad that part is over
