Banded in 2008, any long time banders out there? I need a buddy/Motivation.

Recommended Posts

Hi!! I had my lapband back in 2008 after I had my 1st child and was really struggling to get pregnant again and lose weight..had my lap band and I lost about 50 pounds then got pregnant back to back and now ever since then I've really struggled to find that happy fill place again and start losing weight. I have really bad back problems on top of that and get steroid/cortisone injections every 3-5 months so it makes working out really hard at times due to bad back/leg pain.

I would just love some suggestions on great receipes that anyone likes that fill you up and maybe just a great friend to talk to about the lap band! I don't have but 1 local friend who was banded but she gave up on her band and had it completely unfilled. I just recently had mine refilled and am almost to where I should be I think, but I would love to just have someone to talk with about the band and things that work for them. =-) Thank you!! I'm in Tucson, AZ too.

I was banded almost 2 years ago and the band was very successful for me in the first year but now I am slowly gaining the weight back. Maybe I just need a fill but I don't want to be uncomfortable every time I want to eat something so I haven't gone back to the doctor yet. I feel like a failure and a coward.

If I understand everything, you were banded in 2008, and lost a total of 40lbs???

(according to you avatar-profile)

Speaking for myself and my experience only, the band does not change. I had it adjusted, over a few fills, to a point where it is working.....

For me, I find it next to impossible to fall off the wagon, so to speak...I have thrown caution to the wind, say on cruises, etc, and just went and enjoyed myself...and no matter what, the band still performed it's magic weather I wanted to or not.....

It does not change on it's own.

Now If i did not have it properly filled, and relied more on my own efforts and will power-dicipline, i could understand how I would fail...just like every time I did before surgery.

That's why I had this surgery...to do what I am incapable of doing......

I'm not judging anyone, just reading different posts and comparing them all...seems to be a wide variation including people gaining weight back....

I can only think there is such a variation because the band is adjustable and it too can have a wide variation....and the end user has the final say how they want it to work.

But then, what do I know...only what I know for myself....

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
