flmommyof2 79 Posted October 24, 2014 I was told by one of the nurses at my doctor's office that my evaluation will be 850 questions long. I thought my Lord what in the world do they ask? The not knowing makes me nervous. Can anybody give me an idea of what they ask? Ty:)
jnevr480 66 Posted October 24, 2014 (edited) Wow that is a ton of questions! I have no idea what they would ask. My eval consisted of a conversation with a professional. He went over my childhood, and my relationships with the people in my life, where my eating habits come from, etc. Pretty basic, nothing super crazy! Hope yours goes well!! flmommyof2 79 Posted October 24, 2014 Yes it sure is a lot of questions. But I will just be honest be hopeful. I want to get this surgery done and out of the way to find the healthier me. labwalker 1,177 Posted October 24, 2014 It is part of the evaluation to ensure that you will be successful with your post surgery weight loss. They are looking for signs of eating disorders, and any negative reasons that might be influencing your decision to have weight loss... for example: if someone is having surgery to make their boyfriend happy, instead of themselves, would send up a big red flag! I'm sure all interviews are a bit different, but when I arrived I had to fill out a long questionnaire before the meeting. None of the questions were extraordinary, but she did ask if there were any specific incidents in my childhood that may have affected my mental health. The meeting was not intimidating, you are going to be grilled by a state prosecutor, LOL. Just answer honestly, and keep a cool head and be relaxed.
flmommyof2 79 Posted October 24, 2014 Oh ok, I see. That does make me feel better. Thank you "labwalker". I want to lose this weight for ME most of all but also as a good influence for my children. I have a hereditary disease called Milroys Disease which is a type of Lymphedema. My children inherited it from me. I am suppose to keep my feet elevated at all times to keep swelling down. So kinda hard to lose weight sitting around on my butt. If I can get my weight down I CAN start walking and being more active. So excited for my future. Life is such a blessing and i want to take live every moment healthy and happy. Thanks again hun!
shellyd88 463 Posted October 24, 2014 I didn't have to answer a ton of questions on paper like that only about 10 those long questionnaires are similar to what they give correction officers etc they ask lot of same questions and scenarios posed in diff ways they basically want to know u haven't been in a mental institution u never attempted suicide or or currently thinking of suicide that u aren't depressed if u take medications for anxiety or depression this does not by the way disqualify u for surgery they just need to know they ask if u had any childhood trauma etc family history of obesity how much support u have at home They want to be sure that u don't think that magically everything will just be better if u have surgery I was asked what do I do when I'm angry or upset I said the truth lots of yelling.... Lol ....(I gotta work on that)

You can google it for more information - but it's basically true/false questions that look for signs of depression, mental illness, panic disorders, etc. even if it does show that you have something like that it doesn't mean you'll necessarily "fail." flmommyof2 79 Posted October 24, 2014 Thank you all for your replies to my question. When the nurse told me 850 questions i just couldn't believe it but definitely wanted to know what to expect. Y'all have calmed my nerves down a lot lol. Thank you all again so much. Hope you all have a blessed evening.
DaisyBell 28 Posted October 24, 2014 Mine was only 250 questions. Only note from them was that I don't complain a lot (shows the test is questionable). So, only concern for psychiatrist was that I could let things go too long before I would say something to the doctor. That won't happen.
flmommyof2 79 Posted October 25, 2014 Thank you DaisyBell. I hope I do well or well enough to pass it. I am doing this for all the right reasons. I have family behind me and we are all ready to get this ball rolling. Have a great night sweets
DaisyBell 28 Posted October 25, 2014 flmommyof2 you will do fine! Seriously, the only part that was odd was when she went through an exercise where I had to answer some specific questions and do odd tasks like put these little blocks together to match the picture. It will all be fine. Keep us posted.
georgiare 63 Posted October 25, 2014 Lol since I work in mental health, a lot of my evaluation was shop talk with a colleague. We just went over the signs of depression, risk factors to consider, my support system, and the like. They might do a standardized assessment, which would be longer, but they are about the equivalent of the standard personality test you take when applying for a new job, and they assess characteristics, not really something that you could fail, but the counselor might recommend certain counseling interventions based on your results. It will all go okay for you I'm sure.
