Looking for a mentor or buddy? Four weeks post op RNY

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I had my RNY about 4 weeks ago and I feel like I'm already struggling. I need to stay motivated. I seem to always feel hungry/rarely full and I am scared I'm going to go back to my old ways of stress eating. Would love to have someone to mentor me or a buddy that had surgery around the same time?

Thank you!!!

The hunger is head hunger most likely. What is making you want to eat? Now is the time to work on the head part. I examined my eating habits and I am "hungry" when I am home alone. I have figured out it is boredom for me. Who knew? Instead of eating I now work out. If I am hungry I ask myself why didn't you go to the gym? Then I go. If I go directly after work then I never get hungry except for meal time. I also only allow Protein Snacks.

Hi! Thank you for the advice! I've heard of the "head hunger" thing before and I'm sure that is the case most of the time. Since I was probably 14 my thing was to eat way too much at night. I'm still in that habit now. After the kids are in bed and I have some down time I end up eating (because I swear if feel hungry). Like tonight I ate 6 Popsicles. SF but still not good. Idk just feel kind I'm screwing all the work that was done to prepare for this and I just feel like I've ruined it.

Hi

Forgive yourself! We all have our moments where we feel like we have goofed. Just like before surgery if you dwell on it you will stay focused on that instead of focusing on program. Anytime that you feel you did something outside program just say ok that happened. Now I will start the program all over and get back to routine. Wishing you luck in your journey!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
