Re: New Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty

Recommended Posts

Where are you getting it done crochet queen? It is not yet approved in Mexico or it wasn't in July. I hunted all over the place to try and find this surgery without going 1/2 way round the world. There is a Dr In FL that is doing it as part of a hernia repair. Must be some way to get round the non approved yet factor but he and hospital down there are both very expensive. Good luck to anyone who gets it and let us all know how it goes.

I am getting this done in Manhattan. I know of two other people who had this done a year ago and the other 6 months ago. With appeals and physician documentation they are getting it covered by some insurance companies. This does not have a CT code yet which is why it isn't being covered for most people. No guarantee for me either. My doctor is trying to get this approved for me. I was going to do the sleeve surgery but was very apprehensive about having my stomach cut. My BMI is 36 but I was eligible for all surgeries as I have HBP as a result of my weight.

From what I understand the post op is probably the same as when you have the sleeve surgery. I still have a lot of reading to do on this so I can understand it better. I am just wondering how you feel after and when do you feel back to normal afterwards.

I am beginning the process to get the sleeve through laparoscopic surgery. I was not made aware of the endoscopic sleeve as an option. I have a BMI of 36 and no other health issues. However, Dr Gerber is checking me for sleep apnea and if I have it I will qualify for the surgery. However, should this new endoscopic sleeve be something i consider?

Since they don't remove part of your stomach is this surgery any different to Gastric Plication except it is fastened from the inside instead of with a laproscopic surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
