SahndraLynne 3 Posted October 24, 2014 I am 4 days post op and on the full liquid stage. I am hearing all of these people talking about how they can barely drink their fluids and I am over here drinking all the required protien and then some. I was also able to have 2 ounces of Tomato Soup, a popcicle, and 2 ounces of greek yogurt. I feel super guily like I shouldn't be able to consume that much. I am not going over my calories or anything but it scares me that I am doing a little too well. Anyone else experience this?
*Lexie* 1,486 Posted October 24, 2014 Completely normal. You don't feel restriction when on liquids. I was sure the surgeon made a mistake and only took out like half my stomach. I was able to drink a lot starting around day 4. I could finish a Protein shake in like 10 minutes with no trouble. But a guy that had surgery the same day by the same surgeon as me had all sorts of trouble getting his liquids and at one of our support groups told me that I had just drank more than he could all day (I drank a 24 oz Water in an hour). As soon as I started eating all bets were off. I got all sorts of restriction now.
Nicole Cloud 39 Posted October 24, 2014 everyone is different I still can digest Protein Shakes at 3 months and Water has to be spread out through the day I cant drink large amounts but that is awesome your body was allowing it because right after surgery it is essential to get in the liquids
JCP 619 Posted October 24, 2014 Be happy you are getting your Protein and fluids in! You're doing great! And the above poster is correct, the restrictions kick in when you eat - big time! Keep up the great work!
tawnya71 37 Posted October 24, 2014 Yes I felt hungry all the time on liquids, and had no problems getting yogurts, Protein Shakes , Water down, can pretty much drink them normal if I wanted to, I have to constantly remember to drink slow and eat slow. I do feel restriction now that I'm on foods but I still feeI I can eat too much compared to others.
nancykat150 4 Posted October 24, 2014 I was able to get all my fluids and Protein in on the first day. I was able to drink regularly. I haven't had problems eating either. I'm on regular diet now and you can definitely feel the restrictions.
Thinkingthinner1109 485 Posted October 24, 2014 I can drink everything that is on my program just fine. I can drink at a normal speed, I have never had to sip. Now when I eat......I can feel the restriction, I practiced before my surgery recognizing that I am full so I do not push my limit. I have never had anything come back up or slimed, I don't burp or hiccup either. I know when to stop. There has been once or twice I think I can have one more bite about the size of my pinky nail and decided after I chewed it that I better not swallow it and spit it out. rgjlakey 4 Posted October 24, 2014 OMG I'm so glad to find someone else!!! I'm the same way! I can eat/drink comfortably, I've never had anything come back up ( I eat slow and chew really well) some acid at times, some hiccups (had them often before surgery too) but I feel great! I'm 3 weeks post op today & can get my Protein in easily.

I have been noting all the problems others are having that I did not have including not having to sip sip sip my liquids. Dr Naik said I was the exception. The one thing I have noticed is that I can't hardly burp. Most of the time when I feel like burping, my liquids come up instead of the air. This happens rarely though. Last night I drank my Protein shake too fast right behind a few bites of chicken and part of it came back up when I felt like I had to burp. Silly me! Dr. Naik seemed surprised I could drink and get my Protein. I also had no pain or nausea. No pain meds. I had my surgery right after he started his new practice. mick 99 Posted October 24, 2014 The only thing that kept me from thinking i was doing too well was when the Constipation bouts started.
nancykat150 4 Posted October 24, 2014 Oh don't talk Constipation. Lol that's the only problem I have. If it weren't for laxitives I wouldn't go at all.
