post op time off from work

Recommended Posts

I was told about 3 weeks before returning to my job I work at the front desk of a hotel. I did however hold off for a few extra weeks just because I had no energy whatsoever, but as long as you are able to get up and move around a bit while at work and you have the energy to do so 3 weeks minimum for office work.

I work in an office too, I took 4 weeks off and glad I did. Even though I felt really pretty good after 7 days, I'm glad I took all that time because I got my "food intake" in order, did all my walking so my gas pains were all gone and when I returned to work 4 weeks later I was feeling GREAT!!!!!!!!! That's just about the time I got all my energy back and was about 20 lbs less!

One week off is the norm around here . . . various friends, co-workers and acquaintances that were sleeved were off for 1-2 weeks. My surgeon told me one week if there are no complications. I have a desk job so I hope I will be able to hang!

Comeflywithme thank you and sounds like your doing !

Jessiquoi my "game plan" is a week leave and then part time for the next one - two weeks. I am also able to work from home so hoping things go well. Out of all the worrying about the surgery and risk work is my main concern. Am I crazy?

I have 12 days off from day of surgery, i planned it well with Thanksgiving Holiday..using my vacation time...I will have 1 week left but boyfriends parents gave us a 5 day cruise for Christmas..so I am saving my time for that.

I sure do hope and pray 12 days will be enough...I too, have an office job.

i think it also depends on some individual things too... like, i'm 57 and i don't bounce back as quickly as i did even in my 40s.... like, i'm a Type 1 diabetic and we don't heal as quickly as others...

i feel like Comeflywithme. i want to have my eating down pat before i have to go to work, because my job is nonstop all day and sometimes i forget what time it is, forget to go to the bathroom, eat, etc...

I HATE my job, so I was off for 5 weeks, but I did have a little complication with dehydration :( ... fortunately we all caught it in time, and a fill up later-good to go :)

Most people have a problem with the anethesia more than anything else...so once that's out of your system, you will do better.

Just no LIFTING! What most of us forget, is even tho there are just a few small scars on the outside; on the inside we look like Frankensteins monster...so we have to wait for all that to heal up before we feel good all over!

Good luck!

I work at home full-time - self-employed -- I'm so hoping that one week will be enough time to really take "off" -- and then can do lighter schedule for a few days -- but all will be at home, so that is very helpful obviously. I have no backup for my clients, so it's got to be -- so yes, although health/surgery is biggest worry obviously, work is probably second biggest worry --

i took one week off, had surgery on Oct 6th and came back to work Oct 13th. The first day back i did have to force myself to get up, dressed and come in. i think the more your up and moving the faster you will recover. i was extremely exhausted the first couple of days back but im great now. i feel completely back to normal 17 days post op.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
