JCP 619 Posted October 23, 2014 I am 6 weeks out. (8 if you count pre-op.) I am very anemic and having the struggle many face getting nutrition in. I went to bed at my normal time last night. I normally wake to my alarm at 7am. Today, I woke up at noon. My alarm had been going off for 5 hours. My boss had been paging me. I have absolutely no idea what happened. It really scared me. Thankfully my boss was not angry but just concerned. (He is a nurse.) Has anyone else had anything like this happen? I slept a lot while off work but I was on pain meds then. I am praying this does not happen again...
docbree 199 Posted October 23, 2014 What are your doctors doing about the anemia? Maybe you need an Iron infusion if you can't get enough/absorb enough orally. I hope they get to the bottom of this and that you start feeling better!
Miss Mac 6,262 Posted October 23, 2014 Well, I have been sleeping better and longer since my surgery, for sure. But since I am retired, I do not have workplace issues anymore. Frankly, I do not see how people who work and raise children manage to keep track of details at all. A couple of months ago, I got very sick during the night. I passed out and crashed onto the bathroom floor and slept for an hour ( or was unconscious). I finally woke up, and when I stood up I crashed to the bathroom floor again (and hit my head on the tub again). This second time I was totally out for an hour and a half. So, I ened up in the ER and stayed under observation. They took a CT scan of my head and xrays of my hip to make sure I did not fracture something or have a concussion or another stroke. Then, I had to wear a holter monitor for a whole month. I shared all of that to say this: Yes, I would be concerned and would at least mention it to your primary doctor. One thing I have learned since the stroke is to not minimize my symptoms. My advice to you is to pay attention to what your body is telling you. Either you were passed out and not asleep or you were very very fatigued. If you are a super busy overworked person who is burning the candle at both ends your system (digestion, respiratory, adrenals and hormones....you know - all of that stuff) is not being refreshed. Definitely ask the doc.
IronDruggist 136 Posted October 23, 2014 I've been sleeping a lot more too. I am 9 weeks out, and unless I set an alarm and force myself to wake up, I'll sleep 12 to 14 hours! I just attribute it to working 40 hours on my feet (I don't even have a chair at work) and not eating as much as my body is demanding. I'm still waiting for all this extra energy we are supposed to have...
Lady1000 16 Posted October 23, 2014 My sleep patterns always get messed up after any surgery I have had. If you are anemic on top of having surgery going to your dr for some fast acting solution is what I would do. I would be scared too, just losing so may hours like that. JCP 619 Posted October 24, 2014 Oh my goodness, Miss Mac! Are you doing better? How terrifying! I am going back for more lab work. They doubled my Iron supplement so hoping that helps.
