StephanieJ713 2 Posted October 22, 2014 I have a question. My husband and I are self pay and are scheduled for surgery Nov. 21. As part of my nerves, I had a question come to mind. If we self pay and have issues, will our regular insurance cover us for blood clots, gall bladder, any other complications or will we be self paying for those and just the chance that we are taking? Becca R. 59 Posted October 22, 2014 Hi Stephanie! I have this question, too! Almost afraid to ask. Anyone know??? -Becca
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted October 22, 2014 My surgeon requires self-pay folks to buy an insurance for complications (Blis). Your regular insurance may cover things like pneumonia (you will need to check your policy). Check with your surgeon's office for specific guidance.
armygalafwife 68 Posted October 22, 2014 I've been told anything relating to the surgery my insurance will not pay. What I'm curious about is how they can pinpoint it to related to the surgery. People get obstructed bowels all the time or other complications. Also, my surgeon covers any complications that happen within the first 90 days. I am getting the sleeve and he said that most complications will happen in those first 90 days. I can also purchase additional complication insurance for up to three years with them.
