Stomach rolling and diarrhea (TMI I know)

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on Oct 14, and have had a relatively routine course. I could feel when I was getting full and if I drank too much at one time, I could feel that little bubble when things finally went through to the pouch.

Today however, my stomach and bowels are absolutely rolling. I can hear all of my bowel sounds out loud and they are constant. I have been in the bathroom many many times and most of the time it is pure liquid. I feel like all the Water that I put in me is coming out 15 minutes later.

My stomach isn't tender. I feel ok, just tired (but I didn't sleep much last night).

Thoughts? Just a weird day? Should I be worried?

That nasty complication "leak" just comes to mind...

????I had the worst diarrhea ever...the week I came home... Pure liquid... Didn't feel bad... Just tired! I called the office and they said very common... They said I could take something but I didn't ... I kept having my broth and Water and Popsicles and it stopped after the first week. Hope this helps. Not a subject everyone wants to talk about but I remember being a little freaked! Alyce

I had pretty bad diarrhea the week after I came home. It lasted about a week..it subsided as I was able to add some "thicker" foods like yogurt, pudding, etc. If it keeps up, you may want to check with your doctor to ease your mind. Hang in there!

Have had the same problem periodically since surgery in Aug. My doctor and dietician have me taking Culturelle probiotic and it seems to calm things down. I just have to take it daily or I have to start all over again. I wouldn't think "leak' unless you have pain or a temperature

Thanks for the replies...I took a reglan and it eased up, but now after my supper of pudding it is right back at it. I can't believe how loud my belly is! There would be no need to use a stethoscope to hear bowel sounds tonight!

No, it's not a leak. A leak goes outside your intestinal system. That's not good. You have diarrhea from the stuff that is inside your gastrointestinal system. So that's good, eh?

Diarrhea is common enough for WLS patients that there's a saying for it: "Never trust a fart." I'm two months out on a week-long biz trip and had a little episode of this yesterday. Thank goodness I was near bathroom.

If it starts happening all the time, call your surgeon and see if something odd could be happening. Chances are, your tummy's just getting used to all the many changes you've had done to it lately and possibly also to the "new" foods you're putting through the "new" system.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
