Im having a panic attack about this 15 lbs gain

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved Jan 2013. Top weight 344, 329 at surgery, with lowest weight up to June 2014, being 214.

I know stressing is not helping. I know eating what i want and pretending to be able to eat what i want is the problem.

I exercise 3-4 times a week. I used to run 3-5k last spring until I developed knee problems. So I'm doing dvds at home to rebuild my muscles.

It all about my food intake. But I'm fighting the fear of gaining. I stepped on scales and I'm 230 this morning.

Guess its back to tracking and getting my calories down to 1000-1200?

Is there anyone else with these issues & struggles and what are some ideas to help?

You've done such an amazing job, congrats on your huge overall weight loss ! After reading your post, sounds like you know exactly what's going on and how to fix it.

I'm still new, but my friend had a similar experience after 2 years. The scale started going in the wrong direction again. She told me that weight management is a lifetime event and she had just fallen back into old behaviors. She went back to basic Protein meals and tracking to lose the added weight. At least you caught yourself at only 15lbs up. Good luck!

I know exactly where you're coming from. I was sleeved 1 month before you and at 22 months, I've let myself slip into old habits - eating when I'm bored or stressed or in a hurry (eating something convenient). My weight loss has stopped because of that. I switched jobs 2 months ago and now I'm working 6 to 7 days a week. And I've used that as an excuse to slack off on sticking to my diet. I too am going to have to become more viligant over how many calories I'm taking in.

Hang in there, it's only a setback, nothing that can't be undone.

You've done a great job so far! Maybe considering weighing everyday? Then you won't wake up one day and realize you've gained 15 pounds. I weigh once every morning so that I know when I start to gain and I can immediately make adjustments for it. I feel like if I gain a pound or two I can easily get it under control in a day or so, but if I gained 5-10 pounds., that's going to take at least a month to fix during which time I'm going to be upset about it. Weighing every day prevents that from happening.

Good luck! :)

This is my biggest fear. I am 20 months post op and maintaining well, but I see others in my WL group that start a regain at about two years. I weigh myself every other day and have increased the time I spend excercising hoping to avoid this!

My WL shrink suggests setting a weight range of plus or minus 5 lbs and weighing everyday. She has kept off 150 lbs for going on 11 years. Sure your going to have bad days, but if you check yourself everyday its not to hard to get back in line. As others have said this is a life time commitment.

First, you've ddone a GREAT job: 344 to 214/even 230. The good thing is you're recognizing what has happened--and why. Return to the basics and you'll likely get back on track.

This reminds me of a gent I know from the DFC--Duke Diet & Fitness Center. He'd done so well there, with diet/exercise. Lost over 140 pounds. But then later regained 100 lbs. I asked him about it and he didn't want to come back to the DFC when he saw he'd regained 30, 45, 60... pounds ["I was embarrassed that I'd regained"]...and then, he had more than twice that to lose again.

You're catching it early. Make good use of the VSG tool and you should do fine.

As I try to refocus (in the homestretch toward my 1st surgiversary), your story is a lesson to me (and likely all of us): The VSG/WLS is only a tool, not a free pass to absolute food freedom. We all have to honor it, and use it, wisely. Thank you.

"only a setback, nothing that can't be undone."

it can be hard to confess to yourself that you messed up a little

i'm good with secrets

i won't tell anyone else, i promise!! -_-

exercising is helpful

getting back to MFP is great :)

i might restrict my calorie intake to under 1,000 a calories

I see B) you have determination to get back on the shtick :)

i have faith in you ;)

good luck

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
