It is a really tough choice to make. The sleve does have a slighlty lower chance of side effects, but the rny has a slightly better success rate in terms of patients who keep the weight off for at least 5 years. The sleve is also used on paitent who are at a higher risk of complications due to other health concerns. Since I do not know anything about your medical history I cannot weigh in here. The other thing to consider is that the sleeve can be converted into a full rny down the line, but the rny is as far as it goes. Its the end all. Ultimately, what does your surgeon think? He is the expert and would know what is best for you with your medical history.

I had the full bypass and have not regretted it a single day. Weight loss surgery is like picking out your favorite ice cream. We all have one and we all like different ones and combinations. It ultimately comes down to what works for you. Is there one that your gut is telling you is the one to go for. I have learned a long time ago to always go with my gut.

I hope this helps a little. If you want to discuss it further I am an open book. You can reach me at any of the links below. I would even be wililng to give you my phone number if you needed to talk to a live person to help you through this. It is a tough decision and a big step, but you are making the right choice at least pursuing it. I am so excited for you and your future.

I went into surgery to have a bypass but due to scar tissue and adhesions not enough small intestines to bring up. but, the reason I was going with rny was because I had diabetes and a lot of health issues, the rny would have been better for me. I also elected that surgery because, if there is a problem its reversible. with the sleeve there is no reversal. also if you have reflux the sleeve can make it worse. but with the sleeve you do have a better control over hunger. this I have learned from reading all the postings. read read and read more. and ask your health provider questions.

Best wishes in making your choice! I am going to consult with the surgeon, and rely strongly on his opinion based on my situtation. Based on what he said at the seminar, I think he currently feels that the gastric sleeve is the best choice for most patients. I hope things go well for you.

I had the sleeve and couldn't be more satisfied. I work with 3 ladies that had RNY - and they are happy with their choice as well.

The biggest pro for RNY - easier and possibly more weight loss because less food is absorbed in the intestines.

The biggest con for RNY - must be more careful about the foods you eat (dumping syndrome) and taking Vitamin supplements for life.

I don't think you can go wrong with either procedure. I would choose the sleeve again, simply because the thought of having my intestines rerouted creeps me out! :-)

But if I had psychological issues with food or food addictions, I would have the RNY.

RNY is fantastic for people with comorbidities. I was healthy, just very overweight. I chose the sleeve because the loss seemed more natural. All I have is a smaller stomach. Everything else is up to me.

I chose the sleeve after watching live videos on both procedures and after speaking with the weight and wellness team at the hospital. I think both procedures are amazing tools if you utilize them properly, I just know me and I know their would be days were that "dumping syndrome" would catch me off guard so I was like no ma'am! Plus, and I hate to sound morbid, the thought of having 80-90% of my stomach removed sounded kinda cool - no take backs, LOL!

whatever you choose, I'm sure you'll make the right choice!

I choose the sleeve personally but know the RNY is a very good option too. Talk to your surgeon, what does he recommend? Do you have other issues other then the weight?

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
