Pre-op blues and doubts

Recommended Posts

My surgery date is November 11th. I started my pre-op diet last Thursday. I felt I was doing great for the first few days. By Monday I managed to catch a stomach bug. So two days of little food and lots of throwing up. Now I feel like I'm making a mistake even having the surgery. I'm worried this whole journey is going to be a mess. Help.

I can see how you might feel about it when you are sick and just feel crummy. All I can tell you is I'm 12 years older than you, and I wish I had been banded 15 years ago. I have learned a new way of eating, drinking, problem solving, and handle the new found attention! It was and remains the best gift I've ever given myself.

Hope you are feeling better soon!????

@@TraceyZK Your doing great. Stomach bug aside don't let that take you down from making positive changes in your life. If you are not better in a few days you can push the date a bit.

Talk to your doctors and let them know that you are having this stomach bug they may tell you to stop the pre-op until it passes as you are losing your nutrients as quickly as you are putting them in and if you are on a liquid pre-op diet I have some news that usually liquid in can result in liquid out...so check in with the doctors and be sure of what's going on for you.

Sometimes what we think could be a stomach bug could also be an allergic reaction. Are you using shakes or anything like that for food supplementation? Please give the docs a call to be sure it's just the stomach bug. I had this issue with the slim fast shakes, they did not agree with me at all.

Feel better and let us know how your doing OK?

Hi Tracy

I just started my pre op today. I'm scheduled for November 4th. I totally understand how you feel. Since yesterday I have been having second thoughts. I am trying to remember all the reasons why I started this journey to help me through this stage. Which stinks by the way!!!????

Sometimes I think people who have no fears or doubts are abnormal. You are embarking upon a new way of life, a major change. Change is hard for most people. I had doubts too. It was my first surgery ever. Could I handle the preop diet? After the surgery, when I was hurting from the gas, I thought why did I do this? But I kept on because I had hope. And determination. I could not continue to live my life at 295 pounds. I followed the rules. I also, by choice, counted calories. I exercised for days a week. Now, I am only 8 pounds away from my goal of 165! It has been worth every doubt, fear, pain, you name it, it was worth it.

Well doubts aside, I caught the stomach bug that my students and coworkers have been getting. So bad timing for sure. I've been babying my tummy and I think I'm on the mend. Cream of chicken Soup is in as is low cal Gatorade. Hoping for a much better Thursday. ????

Sorry you got sick. At least you caught the bug before surgery and not after. Vomiting after banding would've put you at risk for pulling out your sutures. So maybe all things happen for a reason. Hang in there. It gets so much better after surgery.

Everyone has doubts and fears during the pre-op stage! Just continue what you are doing. The first 3-4 days on the pre-op diet is difficult, but after that, you body gets into a rhythm. I was banded 5 months ago and it has definitely been worth it! Hang in there, you can do this!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
