Cool! I started the process in August.Doctor said he was going to be submit my paperwork next month for approval. Tricare is saying 3-6 month supervised diet. It was up to doctor on what he wanted to do. I'm just nervous about getting approved. I have a BMI of 45 with hypertension and sleep apnea. I've heard tricare doing 6 months, but i've heard of people getting approved at 3 months. I just hope im the one that gets approved at 3 months,im really excited to get the surgery done.

I just don't understand why all the difference in the regions! I was approved in 3 weeks. My doctor required a 2 week liquid diet, of which I didn't have to participate in because my BMI was 35.2. I barely made the cutoff for the surgery. I have 1 co-morbidity - Diabetes. The only thing Tri-care asked for was for me to have a pulmonary function test. I had never had any problems with my lungs, so I thought that a little strange. Anyway, I had my RNY on 9/11. Hope you get feedback early so you can get your party started soon. Be prepared - this is not an easy road by any means. I watched all kinds of videos on utube and read up on my surgery on here and other places, but NOTHING prepared me for the life change that I have experienced. Take everything they tell you seriously, and don't think it won't apply to you, because it probably will. Good Luck!!

I'm in Colorado. Tricare west, however I used a MTF so the approval process is different. I was able to get the sleeve at the MTF, whereas I don't believe that is an option going through a civilian surgeon.

I've been researching it for awhile now. I've look at a few utube videos as well. I'm confident that I'm mentally ready to do this. It's just a waiting game. I'm just ready to be healthy person n have tons of energy for my kids. :)

I was initially referred off post to a civilian doctor, so I called general surgery on our post to find out why, they reviewed my info and took over my referral. I have been very happy with the results.

That's a shame. I was so excited to find out they had a bariatric program here on Ft Carson. I hope all goes smoothly for you as you work towards approval

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
