Will I ever feel better?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just joined this forum and am about 12 days post surgery. I am finding this to be very very difficult. I know I'm not eating enough Protein or even calories for that matter. I cannot even think about drinking another protein shake-- for that matter I can't even look at the box that they came in without wanting to projectile vomit. I could not sleep for almost a week and it was driving me crazy. Without sleep I had no energy to walk or do anything. My doctor finally prescribe something for sleep and last night I slept a few hours. I'm still very low energy and really don't feel like doing anything. How long does this part last? Honestly I'm wondering if I haven't made the worst mistake of my life.

welcome, wecome, welcome and welcome to sleeveland :)

we're all good eggs here

some of us are more cracked than other

ask us alllll your questions

we will answer to the best of our knowledge

but most of us are laymen (some nurses on the board)

we're all smart (especially me) :D but we don't have medical degress

please remember at the end of the day your doc and NUT (nutrionalist)msp are the ones to listen to

many NUTS/doc have different instructions

ONLY listen to your medical team!!

sorry things aren't going that well right now :(

many of us had/have similar problems that you are going through

telling you that doesn't make you feel any better - but its good to know that you are not alone!!

right now - Water is much more important than getting Protein in

eventually the amount of Water and Protein will go hand in hand :)

you didn't mention if you are successfully drinking water??

many people drink chrystal light or water at room temp

popsicles are also good (don't think they count much as water)

you must drink as much as possible

small, slow sips

you can't risk getting dehyrated

hopefully things will get better sooner than later :)

you are on your way to a healthier, happier, longer life :)

good luck newbie :)

kathy

YES it DOES get beter -- and that will happen within the next few days, you'll see.... and after like 3 weeks, you're like NOTHING and the weight is by then sliding off and you'll feel better and better and better each passing day! Good luck, say positive and walk walk walk -- it makes you feel better!

If you're going through hell, keep going! :) I felt like crap for the first couple of weeks, but now--9 weeks later--I feel great. You'll get there.

You all are impressive! Thank you for the support and kindness. As to the Water, yes I'm drinking and don't have a problem with that. Thank you all again.

Oh girl, I was in your boat not too long ago. It's tough, hang in there, I promise it will get better. I was miserable, I finally got my energy back (most days). I can exercise again, get all my Protein in and all my fluids in. It takes time to adjust. I know it's a big adjustment. But you are about to the turning point. Energy is the last thing that came back for me.

Agreed , we have all had our moments and the beginning is not easy but it does get better. I'm only 5 weeks and this past weekend was my true turning point.

You are going to have these moments, stalls, and other things. But nothing is as sweet as watching that scale drop. Then you will know it really is worth it!

Good luck and spend time on this app, it helps to know you are not alone. We are in this together????

I am not sure if I am 4 or 5 weeks out.... So yes, definately gets better. As people noted, focus on Water. If the shakes gross you out. Syntrax Nectar fuzzy navel flavor was something I saw recommended regularly on this forum. I found it sooo helpful in getting both water and Protein amounts in as I made a large glassful and drank it all day watered down and with added ice. It truly was the best thing in my recovery

How are youo doing sweetie? Trust me it'll get better...I had severe complications, almost died and had to have a second emergency surgery....i was sleeved on Oct 6th. i was not able to get proper Protein, Had to go back to the er for dehydration.....whey was/is making me nausious and soy now, even though I have drnk it for years....making me have severe diarrhea by the time I got to bottom of the glass. Today, I am feeling so much stronger and better. I add as little milk as i can, then add one scoop of the soy, and i add a Greek yougurt flavor and mik it slowly with a stick blender so it doesn't froth up...makes less to drink that way...and i'm getting though...a few days of Protein really makes all the differeance. Money is a concern here at my house, but when i go shopping when hubby gets paid....I'm buying the premade ones...some of htem really high protein...I have some of hte Atkins Strawbarry and it's not so bad...kinda good...experiment

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
