I am a patient of Dr. Ludwig. I had a better than awesome experience this past Tuesday getting my vsg. The hospital staff was phenominal. Of course both Dr Simchuk and Dr Ludwig go into every surgery together to assist each other. If you did not have a good experience I'm sorry for that.

So far I have had a great experience. My surgery is on Nov. 25, so I'm just trying to see what the surgery and hospital stay are like. How long was your hospital stay, and surgery?

I could not have had a better experience for this procedure. There are a few nurses the who have have the surgery with the surgeons so they completely understand your issues before and after. My surgery was at 9:30 and I was in my room before noon. Got up and walked within 2 hours, the nurse encouraged me, but I had these painful gas pains in my lower right side. Walking must have helped because the gas soon passed.I got released at noon the next day. Now that I'm home and I have dropped 10 lbs in 5-6 days the only problem I am having is lower back pain that wakes me up. I suspect that it's the binder because I wear it 24/7 even to sleep in. And I am not meeting my fluid/protein requirements but that was to be expected. I'm sure your experience will be as good as mine. Maybe we will meet up in future at a support meeting. I'm not local, I'm from Yuba City area. Good luck to you

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
