Were you allowed to take a shower in the hospital.

Recommended Posts

Yes, they came in the next morning and asked when I wanted to shower. They used glue in all if my incisions, so I was instructed not to scrub my belly, which I didn't want to do due to the discomfort, but got to wash my hair and put on deodorant after. I also asked them to let me change back into the clothes I came in after my shower because I found the gown so binding and with cords and tubes everywhere I didn't need more physical restrictions, and they let me.

@@bikrchk That's funny and horrible lol! Ok in that case I would want to leave too. I pray I won't have a roommate and if I do at least a decent one. I have ear plugs, a sleep mask, and spray and I'm not afraid to use it!!!!

@@Mojo56 It's a stretchy wide band that velcros around your belly and holds everything in. It makes it easier to move around, turn, walk, get up and down. I had one when I Had my c-sections and it was an absolute God sent! I didn't get one with my first and the pain of moving was horrible! They last two were a breeze in comparison. I was asking about using one in an earlier post and some people did get one and others were never offered one. If my hospital doesn't Give them out I will buy my own.

I was there for two days after my surgery and I took a shower both days. I had a binder too. The nurses threw it on the bed while I was in the shower, I had no idea what it was, my husband said the nurse said I could wear it if I wanted. So I didn't wear it until I got home. Big mistake I should have to it on immediately. It is a God send. I wore it at least two weeks maybe a little longer, it helped sooooo much.

I was given a basin with antibacterial soap to wash up in the bathroom. The PA who works with our surgeon said you don't want to shower in the hospital. She felt that it probably isn't as clean as we think.

I wasn't allowed to shower in the hospital, they gave me some kind of anti-bacterial wipes to have a sponge bath. My doc wanted me to keep all Water out of my stitches for the 1st week post-op. He said I could wrap myself in cling wrap if I wanted to shower. :-)

I was not disallowed, but I was hooked up to an IV and a catheter and it was kind of a pain in the ass. Once the catheter was removed things were a lot easier.

Can I also say if you bring a bra (because the girls need support, right?!), bring one with convertible straps. If you are hooked up to an IV, you can unhook the strap to get it on over your IV lines.

I just love all this helpful information, so thanks! I will be having my surgery at mayo where all the rooms are private, so at least there will be no roommate issues, whew. I'm definitely going to ask about the binder and the shower.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
