tazpur74 2 Posted October 21, 2014 I'm 7 days post opt and I'm having a difficult time with this clef liquid diet. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to cope during these first weeks? Also I know I'm not getting all the Protein I need. The shakes are not doing it for me anymore.?
devint 162 Posted October 21, 2014 In clear liquid phase, I used sugar free popsicles and sugar free Jello to give me something to chew on. I also (gross but worked) chewed on beef Jerky for the flavor and then spit it completely out once chewed. At this point for Protein, shakes are really your only choice. I "spice mine up" by adding extracts like vanilla, mint, coconut and banana to them. some people swear by powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken broth, but I always made it too hot and it congeals and is not yum at that point. Keep reaching out. It's definitely a marathon not a sprint. In a few weeks you'll start to feel stronger and can relearn friendship with food.
rmspencer 79 Posted October 21, 2014 @@tazpur74 I'm right there with you! I had my surgery on 10/13 and I'm bored to tears with the food! I get almost all of my Protein from two 4oz shakes I do and if I'm feeling really ambitious, I'll do a 6 oz for Breakfast and then just rely on my yogurt or ricotta for the rest of it since I'm detesting the shake taste right now. I use Bluebonnet whey Protein Isolate and it has a whopping 26g of protein per scoop (4oz). Please keep in touch. I feel like I could really use some support right about now too. Dana825 82 Posted October 21, 2014 Hey everyone, I'm officially 14 days post op. I'm having the same troubles, about 4 days ago all my shakes started tasting very horrible to me to the point that I want to vomit. I can't tell you guys how much money I've wasted over the past 5 days trying to find something my sleeve will agree with. I am able to consume my Water but nothing else not even crystal light. My sense of smell has intensified so much so that I can't take the slightest odor without me get getting nauseated. I see my Bariatric Coordinator on Friday and I can't wait. I really did not anticipate this hurdle, but I'm pushing on we can get through this together.
rmspencer 79 Posted October 21, 2014 @@Dana825 my doctor mentioned the possibility of heightened sense of smell and sensitivity to it too. He equated it almost with morning sickness and being pregnant. Good luck!

He equated it almost with morning sickness and being pregnant. Good luck!there's a lot of taste that I couldn't tolerate even before the surgery anything with Splenda in it or Stevia, they just taste wrong to me. So I get these Proteins powders in the mail and some of them have that Splenda in it and then I can't tolerate it.
