Surgery with Dr. Hidalgo in Puerto Vallarta

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery with Dr. Hidalgo in Puerto Vallarta back in May 2014. The Gastric Sleeve so far has been very good for me... I started out weighing 245 pounds and I am 5'4. Today 5 months later I am 195 pounds. Dr. Juan Francisco Hidalgo and the staff at his office Weight Loss Team have been such a help. They are great! Not only do they provide me with followup calls and video conferences, they really do care about my success. Whenever I had a question before surgery, they were quick to answer, and postop it is the same. Surgery was fantastic, I paid $4500 in Puerto Vallarta, and there were no hidden costs. The other doctors were charging thousands more and the hospital was fantastic. I had surgery at the CMQ Premiere hospital. When I arrived at the hospital they did all my tests and then I met Dr. Hidalgo. He is very young and very professional. He speaks pretty good english and I did not have a problem understanding him. He went over everything with me about my surgery and then asked if I had any questions. I did not, I was scared, but really wanted to have this surgery. Dr. Hidalgo made me feel reassured. I had my surgery and awoke to find about an hour had passed. The nurses were very friendly and did everything possible to make me comfortable. The hospital was very very nice, similar to a hospital here in Texas, just a lot smaller. Dr. Hidalgo came by after surgery to check on me and told me everything went well. I was in the hospital for 2 nights, and had regular checkups with Dr. Hidalgo. When I had my final leak tests and they removed my drain I was allowed to return to my beautiful resort. Dr. Hidalgo uses the Sunset Plaza Resort, a 5 star beach resort with ocean view rooms and the hotel was one of the nicer hotels I have ever stayed at. The views of the ocean and the sunset were the best. The hotel is very accommodating for weight loss patients and I felt like they were providing me the very best service in the world! What a great trip! Not only was Puerto Vallarta safe, I flew right into the city, did not have to worry about the border crossing or the violence at the border, but also had a wonderful hotel, and a great surgery experience. I cant say enough good things about my trip to Puerto Vallarta and about Dr. Hidalgo. I still have a ways to go but am so grateful for the experience and the change in my life. I cant wait to go back and take a vacation in Puerto Vallarta!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
