Curious, been reading lots posts and I'm curious, what was the worse procedure you had to have done before surgery???

The upper GI test. You have to drink barium which is this really thick chalky stuff and they take pictures of your stomach from various angles. It was the worst procedure and honestly, it wasn't that bad. Just didn't taste fantastic.

Hmm, nothing I had to do was that bad but my least favorites were my 3 nutrition visits and the psych evaluation. I hated the nutrition visits cause I have a short attention span and I found them so boring. I hated the psych evaluation mostly for the same reason and the 500 questions that I had to answer (which were basically the same few questions worded differently asked over and over). Like I said though, nothing was horrible, just time consuming. GL!

Nothing was bad but the sleep study was not my favorite! It's very hard to sleep with wires stuck all over yourself.

Nothing was bad. Ok so maybe the stinging from the anesthetic during my EGD but I was sleep before I could finish complaining. Oh and the waiting.?

I didn't think any of the pre-op tests were bad, just took quite a bit of time in the long run. The endoscopy required the most logistics, but it was easy-peasy. Just knocked me out and woke me up 20-30 minutes later with a great buzz.

If I had to choose I would say the sleep study was the most annoying. sleeping overnight looking like an android with wires everywhere knowing you are being watched was not fun. It doesn't hurt, the nurse was great but I didn't get that much sleep. Your hair is gross afterward and you have to wash it several times (rinse, repeat, rinse repeat) to get the goo out.

The EGD was easy although I was still quite spacey feeling a full day after the procedure. Everyone was extremely pleasant and helpful. My husband said he had to keep checking on me the entire afternoon after I got home to see if I was breathing as I slept straight through until the next morning!

I didn't care much for the EGD. Just had it this morning. And, the worst part: because there was still some food left in my stomach (apparently, I'm a slow-digester), I have to do it again in 2 weeks. UGH! At least I know what to expect next time.:unsure:

I have to get a sleep study, as well, but that's not scheduled yet.

Just keeping my eyes on the prize...it's all good. :P

My worst procedure was going to the bank and emptying my savings account to pay for the surgery (but worth it!)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
