11days out and not sure what the heck I'm doing!

Hey all! This is my first post on this website and would really appreciate some feedback. Here I go... My two week post op is coming up, I have been able to more recently get closer to the requirement for the Protein and Water, I never had a problem with Soups, and am starting to feel more myself. Did any of you have a weight goal to loose before for first post op? And did anyone ever barely loose or maybe even gain in the first few weeks?

I myself do no have a certain amount I want to loose before my post op. I wonder if I should have started out strict that way, I guess I'm just afraid of failing.

This whole process is new to me. I did a lot of research, went to support groups, but nothing really prepares you till you actually do it!!

And thanks in advance to all who respond. Hearing others experiences really helps me.

I'm really new too. I was sleeved 10/6. I think that starting off strict with weight loss goals is the way to go. I've loss 20lbs since the surgery. I also read that seeing personal goals is good way to stay on track.

I've set goals like starting a weight loss vlog. I've been researching weight loss and coming up with info. Good luck!

If you have having issues with your Protein.....change brands. I use New whey liquid Protein that has 42 g of Protein per 3.8 oz. It comes in many different flavors. I mix it with crystal light or sugar free kool aid and practice sipping on it all day long. Then I have 2 Protein shakes a day.......so I am getting 94 g of protein a day. There is also a unflavored Protein powder that has 30 g of protein per tablespoon and you can put that in your Soups.

Oh my goodness! 20 lbs.! That's amazing!!!! Congratulations. I honestly don't feel any lighter than day of surgery. I am starting my log tomorrow. I thought since I'm just on soups/protein drinks/water I didn't really need to start it but you are right, starting strict is the way to go. Thank you. :)

You may have loss weight but your still bloated. I'm still crazy bloated. Like 9mos pregnant bloated. Hop on a scale and stay on liquids. Stay motivated, I know it's hard in constantly looking for things I can graze on. I have to remind myself of my goal.

I'm going to disagree with "hop on a scale." Give your body time to heal. Everyone gains weight when they are in the hospital, almost everyone has a stall at week 2-3 post-op. If you're worried about what the scale says, this stall will generally be more frustrating. Frustration is NOT what you need when your body is recovering from major surgery. Just take it easy on yourself, surgeons understand about gaining weight while you're in the hospital and they know about the stalls. Also, remember that your surgeon works for you, you hired him/her. They didn't hire you. Don't ever be intimidated to ask them questions, even if they are tough questions. This is your body, your surgery, your journey. You get to take it the way you want, not the way anyone else wants. Your body will take about 6-8 weeks to heal, cut yourself some slack, rest and listen to your body right now. The weight will come off, and it doesn't have to happen the first 2 months after surgery.

That's where my mind and energy has been focused, on the resting and healing aspect. I read so much about the pains, gas, reflux, and let me tell you, in my own personal experience, after many other surgeries, giving birth to 4 kids (2 "regular" and 2 c-section) the pain in the beginning is the worst pain I've ever felt! I'm glad it got better! My body is definitely telling me to rest, and I have been. And for me, having 4 kids and a hubby normally the word rest does not really apply in my world so I am using this time to do just that. Thanks for the reply.

It is awful at first, I agree that it was very painful! But it passes. You just need to rest, rest, rest. Do your best on liquids and Protein. Don't push yourself; go slow with food. And I agree with the others... I avoid the scale. I only weigh at my appointments and my physician likes that. It works well. And keep a log!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
