mrscherry2010 14 Posted October 19, 2014 So I'm just starting my journey. I want this so bad but I'm scared I'm going to get rejected for whatever reason. Im on my 6th month of required weigh in's and I gained 3lbs last month and I read in one of these threads that someone's insurance rejected their surgery because they gained a couple lbs. So now I'm freaking out. I'm 5'7" and weigh 335 which puts me at a bmi over 50 Plus I have high blood pressure, Migraines, and depression... I'm freaking out that I'm going to get rejected... I have 2 insurances (blue cross and medicaid) but I'm still freaking out that they will reject me for something stupid!! Is this normal??
James Marusek 5,244 Posted October 19, 2014 I think this is a common fear. I was worried almost to the day of surgery that the insurance would refuse to pay.
tomi71 581 Posted October 19, 2014 My nurse told me she has seen people get rejected for gaining. Just be very careful especially around appointment time when they document your weight. Best of luck to you! I am sure it'll work out.
lovingme2014 2 Posted October 19, 2014 I feel you! I had my 1st group appts (met w/NP, NUT, Psych) on 10/16. I was unable to meet w/my surgeon due to her flight being delayed but they rescheduled me for 10/23. I have Horizon BCBS Avantage EPO. Their financial counselor gave me a form w/all the info I needed for my ins. co to cover the the surgery.I've been so anxious since! Worrying about a rejection too but I decided to let it go and focus on getting the necessary things done meanwhile.. St. Michaels Metabolic & Bariactic Center is the best. Their office gave me all my referrals (lab, Upper GI, sleep Study) and my f/u appts for Nov. So good luck with your process!

SandyS 77 Posted October 20, 2014 Over five months of supervised visits I gained 11 pounds. My physician told me I had to lose the weight I gained before my appointment with my surgeon. I lost 15 pounds, had my surgeon appointment, and was approved from BCBSM. My surgery is scheduled for November 20th! Best of luck to you. You will do great!!!
