2 years Post-Op. Down 140lbs. 1 year Post-op Gallbladder. Stomach troubles now..?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. So I got the sleeve 2 years ago this January. No problems at all. Down 140lbs. Then this past january had pain went to the ER had to have emergency surgery that same day (following morning actually) for my gallbladder. But now since having that removed I have all these stomach issues. It's very sensitive these days. Especially in the morning. I try to keep fatty foods to a minimum and also coffee. dairy as well. But now this past friday night I got sharp stabbing pains in my stomach. maybe 3-4 of them. then during the night a little discomfort in my mid section, and yes around the belly button region. it lasted until around saturday night. today it's a little sensitive. no more naval discomfort and no more sharp stabbing pains thank god. but it's still a worrying to me. and there is a little discomfort. No vomiting, no bloody urine or stool and no fever. only one case of diahrea but since the gallbladder that seems to be my new norm every now and then. I plan on calling my PCP in the morning for a check up but I was wondering if anyone has gone thru something like this? to be honest I think it's my appendix. From what I've ready it's very common after gallbladder removal. but i mean, first my stomach then gall bladder now this? I'll have nothing left! and i know from what I've read it's considered 'minor surgery' from what we've already been thru but it's still surgery. I just want to catch it before it bursts! thank you in advance for your input. hope all is well

I suggest you call your surgeon.

I agree with BeagleLover. Pain is not normal and is our body's way of telling us to pay attention to something that's not normal. Best of luck.

You've already cleary stated in your post that you're calling your doctor in the morning, which is the right thing to do. I have no idea what your symptoms are related to, but if you are concerned about your appendix, do the following two things.

Press on the lower right of your abdomen where the appendix is located. If pressing this area relieves your pain and when you release your hand the pain returns, that is a red flag for a hot appendix; it's called rebound pain.

Secondly, and this will sound ridiculous, but stand on one foot and jump once, landing on the same foot. An inflamed appendix will cause discomfort in that right, lower quandrant area.

If either of those are positive for you, then you should seek help at an ER. Appendicitis can be very minor if detected early, or can have deadly consequences if it bursts. Good luck to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
