Elode 8,093 Posted October 18, 2014 Hi all, I am scheduled for VSG surgery on 11/3. I was just wanting to know if anyone could tell me about how long the recovery time was before you could get around without much pain? I am having my surgery on a Monday. I will be in the hospital until Wednesday and I was hoping to be back in class on Thursday. (1 hr lecture) is that possible or Am I just delusional? Thank you in advance! Bandista 7,466 Posted October 18, 2014 I had a different surgery but I say focus on your healing and recovery, don't push yourself too hard.....I really believe in walking as much as possible, that it kicks the body into healing mode. Take. Good care of yourself and congratulations on choosing yourself and your healthy future first. You are starting a whole new chapter in your life! Elode 8,093 Posted October 18, 2014 Thank you @@Bandista, I am pretty excited/scared I will try to take it easy I am going to try to walk as much as I can, I remember that from when I had my c-sections the more I walked the easier it got.
ProudGrammy 8,322 Posted October 18, 2014 (edited) surgery on a Monday back in class Thursday. possible or Am I delusional? @@Elode i think you are delusional!! people recover differently it took me 2-3 weeks til i got back to my wonderful self some people might take more or less time til they are their normal self you will have just had MAJOR surgery on you new little tummy normal issues PO might be gas, exhaustion, sore stiches alittle pain in general (MAYBE some vomitting) et al tummy might start to rebel telling you to "hold your horses", slow down listen to your body - it will tell you if you are over dueing anything not telling you to scare you, just to be realistic there are A "few" people that have no problems they are far and few between "maybe" you might think about talking to some of your professors tell them you just had surgery (don't have to say WLS) some explanation IMO should be made if you need more time to recover good luck speedy recovery kathy Edited October 18, 2014 by proudgrammy
Elode 8,093 Posted October 18, 2014 @@proudgrammy Ok thank you for the advice. I have talked with my instructors and I planned to take 8 days off. I only have to sit in class for 1 hour at a time but if it's too much then they will just have to rearrange for me. I do not want To wait until middle of December that's just too long!! tawnya71 37 Posted October 18, 2014 I was sleeved on 9/23 on a Tuesday, went home Wednesday, had a business apt. Friday that I really couldn't miss. I was fine, and went back to work the next Monday.. but everyones body heals differently. One hour should be ok for you.
Elode 8,093 Posted October 18, 2014 Ok good thank you. I know it's not the same surgery as my three c-sections but I did really really well with them. I actually had them remove my pain pump within 6 hrs and I was up walking 30 mins after getting to my room. This is a completely different surgery so I will have my fingers crossed that I will do as well with it.
Big_Mama 511 Posted November 18, 2014 Hi @@Elode! I was wondering how long you were out of commission after your surgery? I'm going in 12/29 & returning to work on 1/5. I know everyone heals differently, but I've heard plenty of people say they were good to go after a few days. I've had 2 c-sections, and with my second I was released from the hospital after my second day and was running around like nothing by the third day.
Elode 8,093 Posted November 18, 2014 @@Big_Mama Well I was in the hospital two days, came home and was in more pain than in the hospital so after 2 days my surgeon upped My pain meds and I was much better after that. I would say at 1 week I was good. I was driving and back at class that Next Monday. I'm exactly two weeks out today and it's almost like it didn't happen. Except for food, I can't tell I had surgery when I go to eat

juliedishman 2 Posted November 19, 2014 Random question..... When having a Sleeve. Do the Drs remove the same amount of stomach from every patient? They said I have a reallllly small stomach. I don't get it! How can I be overweight. If I have a small stomach then did they not remove that much? Will I still be able to loose 100 lbs?! Just some thoughts going through my head!!
