christina1979 16 Posted October 20, 2014 I have a question that may get me in trouble. Does anyone else find it incredibly irritating that people that only need to lose 40 or 50 pounds are having this procedure? I mean, I wish I only had 40 pounds to lose and I don't think I would consider surgery if I did. I would try something else, first. Just my opinion and I mean no disrespect to anyone.I guess I'll get in trouble with you-yes, very irritating. Grant it, we don't know their circumstance and unless they're cash paying, something is allowing them to get approved my insurance, but still.....this was a last resort for me. I tried for YEARS trying to lose it and after every diet I gained more than I lost. Hopefully this is my long term option.

I always get pissed when people who are 10-20 lbs overweight complain. I think it is really rude, especially in front of obese/morbidly obese people. If you are 10-20 lbs overweight STFU and gain 100-200 more pounds and then complain to me

Just my opinion and I mean no disrespect to anyone.Do I think someone that "only" had 40 lbs to lose should do the surgery? Probably not, I'm not sure the benefits would outweigh the risks. That being said, at one point ALL of us were "only" 40 lbs overweight and we obviously did nothing at the time. Hindsight is 20/20. No judgments here. ((Shrugs)) Also, I remember complaining about being 20-30 lbs overweight (now I'm a couple hundred). I never did it in front of morbidly obese people but everyone is entitled to their own insecurities and struggles. In fact, im glad these individuals are taking action when they are. Had i been so willing to do so earlier in my life when i wasnt so overweight, it may be easier to get back to a normal weight. I applaud anyone for taking this step as it is a serious decision. Now, I must add that those of us who carry several hundred pounds of excess weight do struggle considerably more in terms of mobility. That being said, i still feel that - regardless of the amount of weight we need to lose - we all struggle internally in a very real and similar way.

You're not the only one! I am jealous of those people! LOL As someone who has tried for years to lose weight the "old fashioned way", seeing someone with only 50 lbs to lose is a little annoying to me.
thelion99 12 Posted October 20, 2014 Wow, that's great! How long did it take you to get there? hi Ch14, if you're talking to me, it took me 8 and 1/2 months to lose 67 pounds. It's going a lot better now that my calories are bumped up to 1,000. For example, I lost 5 pounds last week. I'm doing everything in my power to continue the strong weight loss and still remain healthy.

KQH 69 Posted October 20, 2014 I'm always a bit taken aback when I see someone sharing how awful they felt when they were "so heavy" and how great they are now - and their starting weight is either where I am now at 80+lbs down or even below! Just goes to show it's all perception.
MichelleTN 169 Posted October 20, 2014 Love seeing what the possibilities are with the sleeve. I think that will be my choice of surgery.
CowgirlJane 14,260 Posted October 20, 2014 I wouldn't get surgery for being 40# overweight either there are awesome 2 year (expensive but so is WLS) geared to true lifestyle changes that I think are better. I in fact wanted to do that but they told me I was too high BMI to be a good candidate and recommended sleeve! I was over 50 BMI at the time.
KayleeC14 159 Posted October 20, 2014 When I started this journey I weighed in at 397. After pre-op diet I weighed in at 362 and today I am almost a year out and weigh 239. I have lost a total of 157 pounds, I am bound and determined to shed the 39 pounds that I have left to go to get to my overall goal of 200!
nancykat150 4 Posted October 20, 2014 My all time heaviest was 408, I started the weight loss journey at 385. At surgery I weighted 340 and at 5 weeks out I'm 321. I too find it irksome to see people who need to lose just a little having surgery.
Jess623 10 Posted October 21, 2014 I went into surgery as 330 and today (2 weeks since surgery) I weighed in at 301.4. I can't wait to get into the 200's because it had been about 3 years since I have been!!
