mrscherry2010 14 Posted October 17, 2014 I have Blue Cross as primary ins and Medicaid as secondary ins. I called Blue Cross yesterday and they only cover my surgery at 50%. Does anyone know if medicaid will pick up the remaining balance? Or how that works.....

ThinnerMe2015 14 Posted November 7, 2014 I'm from Michigan as well, but I don't have BCBS, I have Medicare as Primary and Medicaid as Secondary, but I know what ever Insurance you have Medicaid always pays second, so they should cover the remaining balance I would think, well good luck with your process, I'm waiting on approval myself so Good Luck too us both
Jersrose43 837 Posted November 7, 2014 Medicaid will pick up the full balances ONLY if you meet their requirements. Contact your case worker and / or whoever provesses the claims for Medicaid for you (sometimes and hno is selected) and get their requirements If they tell you they cover the balance after bcbs as long as they cover it --- GET IT IN WRITING! momma_missie 30 Posted May 10, 2015 Just checking to see if there were any updates. My BCBS also covers 50% however I do not have any other insurance as back-up.
mrscherry2010 14 Posted May 11, 2015 I just sent in my coordination of benefits letter from Blue Cross telling them I also had Medicaid and am waiting to see what is paid and who pays it. My surgery was over $30000 and I really hope I don't have to pay the hospital $15000!
Jersrose43 837 Posted May 15, 2015 @@mrscherry2010 your bcbs is primary and as long as they approved it in advance should pay it. If it's excluded Medicaid will pay. If you failed to request authorization from bcbs and it's a benefit you will run the risk of no one paying.
mrscherry2010 14 Posted May 15, 2015 My surgery was April 13th. So far Blue Cross has covered it. Haven't heard anything otherwise. Thank you for your reply
