The waiting game...how did you stand it?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am new to this and signed up to go to a seminar the middle of next month. I know my insurance requires a 6 month supervised diet. For those of you that had to jump through insuance hoops...how did you stand it? I am so anxious and desperate to get this done and start losing that it's killing me! And I haven't even been to the seminar yet! It seems like next summer is soooo far away.... how do I stay motivated and focused on the end goal?

Welcome cindyt. I have a question first, before I start spewing up daisies and puppies with my usual upbeat answers: Do you have control over the shopping and cooking at your house? Your situation will have an effect one way or the other on how you manage the food and bev that go into your new tummy.

I had to wait 10 months because there were so many obstacles to overcome. I just had surgery 9 days ago and the long wait actually made me prepared, confident, and successful. However, there were times when it felt like I was waiting forever and that the surgery may not actually happen. Learn as much as you can about bariatric surgery and diet through research or from forums like this one. Losing weight and exercising before surgery will help you in the long run and help you reach your weight loss goal quicker after surgery. Good luck!

I had my first preop appointment last week, but have to wait until after the 1st of the year for surgery, due to needing to switch ins plans. It's driving me nuts. What I have been doing is: pouring over forums, you tube videos (vsg kirk is amazing, he has really helped me), and this week I have put myself on a high Protein, low carb diet. Preparing myself for my actual preop diet, and really, for after surgery. It hasn't been too tough, probably because I am ready for this, and am willing to do whatever I need to in order to get there. I will admit, I really want to drink a coke, which is kind of odd, since I am not a huge soda drinker, I think it's because I "can't" have it. I will continue to watch hours of videos, and reading advice her, probably for quite some time, at least until surgery, and probably after as well. Keep to your plan, your day will come faster than you think!! :)

@@cindyt I am in the same position as you although I already did my seminar and met with my surgeon I am in the waiting phase because I have a 6 month diet as well. I started the process about 2 minths ago and can't believe 2 months is over already...the more you obsess the harder the wait will be...like other people suggest take the time to learn about the diet and how life will be after just educate yourself....I also have to get a 5 year medical record....I didn't always have health insurance so my paperwork is all over so that will take some time finding all of that. Just keep busy....but I'm here as a journey buddy if you want! Congrats on your decision!

Cindy

I was in the diet coke lover world too. I stopped 2 months ago and I've been doing pretty well. Each day gets easier. I'm at the end of my 5 month wait. It goes by some days slower some faster. Promise it does go by.

Believe me the time will be here for surgery before you know it. I was not one that sought out this surgery or wanted it really bad. It was suggested for me by my general surgeon when I was in for a consult for my ventral hernia.

I started this whole process in Jan of this year and when my insurance said 6 month diet I was actually relieved. I needed that time to wrap my head around all that was happening. To really figure out how my life would change, how I would be eating and what was required to succeed at this. I have concluded that this is gonna be a long and hard journey but with the support team I have and all the knowledge I have acquired in the last 10 months I think I am as prepared as I can be.

Good luck to you on your journey!!!!

I had to do a 6 month supervised diet as well and I thought it was bad at that time, but now I've been waiting a week for my insurance company to approve my surgery .... this is so much worse I can't take it anymore!!!it's all I'm thinking about this past week!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
