So sorry to hear that both of you. Best of luck and I hope things get better for you real soon.

I thought I was developing a stricture before because I couldn't keep things down. I was throwing up about 4-5 time a week. I guess I just was either eating too fast or taking too big of bites (I didn't think I was doing either) I'm monitoring it with my Dr. Office, Knock on wood, it's been over a week since anything has come back up so hopefully I am good. Best of luck!!!

Thank you. I just have to wonder if there is something else they can do to keep it from constantly closing. Something along the lines of when a stent is placed in an artery.

I have read that sometimes they will use a stent to correct the stricture. Good luck!

I am in the hospital now for the third time due to a stricture and getting dehydrated so badly. They have been giving me Zofran and Phenergan because I am unable to keep anything down. It has not been fun! I've had one endoscopy done so far and my doctor said that there is just a very small narrowing at the base of my esophagus. I also had a HIDA scan done yesterday after blood tests revealed that my liver enzymes were elevated. The scan revealed that my gallbladder is not functioning properly so it will be removed this week after I am more stable. Right now I am so dizzy and nauseated I can barely walk. This has not been fun at all and had I known that this would be the outcome, I more than likely would not have had this surgery. I hope they are able to help you out!

I have felt exactly the same. I knew that my life would not be normal as it was before surgery, but I never knew my life would be miserable.

Unfortunately I know all to well how you feel. My liver enzymes were elevated both times I was admitted to the hospital and I ended up having pancreatitis. I certainly wish you well!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
