Getting 'stuck' is THE worst feeling. EVER.

Recommended Posts

OMG, I've gotten semi stuck a few times... Little chest tightness and discomfort and then it subsides. But today I really found out (the hard way) what stuck really is...I skipped Breakfast and was really hungry when lunch time came around, I dug into my broasted chicken breast and knew immediately my bite was too big and I didn't chew enough. Well I spent the next 2 hours in the bathroom sweating, chest pain, saliva building up, until finally it came up. That was 5 hours ago and I'm still weak and feel wiped out. Lesson learned, I just hope I didn't cause any damage (I'm only 10 weeks post op)

That sounds awful! I've had a similar experience with ground beef and rice. But everything you described reminds me of Gastritis. THAT was heinous!

Maybe liquids tomorrow is a good thing. Give yourself time to heal.

I think I may have to have some Fluid taken out. I'm gonna give it until over the weekend. Maybe I just need to teach myself to take smaller bites and chew longer. I thought I had it down! I was doing so good! I think if I can get used to doing that, I'll be ok. I don't want to get stuck or semi stuck (semi happened today) every day.

Even thinking about it makes me feel yucky.

This thread makes me smile....(not in a demeaning way!), but just in a reflecting kind of way. I've been banded a little over 5 years now, and I remember well my learning (stuck) times. My surgeon didn't want me eating bread, so that wasn't my problem food. Things like brussel sprouts, slab type red meat, and a very few others.

After starting to get some restriction, I realized that I had a couple of options.

One, go get some Fluid taken out so I could eat what I wanted.....and how I was used to eating pre-band.

Two, continue to eat foods too fast, not chew enough and be uncomfortable getting stuck followed by PB'ing.

Three, learn to eat slower and chew much better.....AND just give up some foods....forever.

I chose the third option.

It can take a while to learn what works best for each individual. But most of us have been through that learning phase.

Best wishes and much success to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
