norcalkitty 29 Posted October 16, 2014 I have done great so far but I am getting sharp pain at the large incision all of a sudden. I went to tie my shoe and was hit with a painful sensation like I was pulling something under my skin. Very different from the aching and sore muscles I usually feel. I am two weeks out. JCP 619 Posted October 17, 2014 I had it, too. There are internal stitches strengthening the abdominal wall. You may have pulled one a bit. This is what gave me the most trouble. You should call the doctor and ask about it but they told me to take my pain meds, take it easy, and it would heal up. It did.
norcalkitty 29 Posted October 17, 2014 THANK YOU! I called the doctor's office today and they said to take pain meds but did not describe why. And I was tying my shoe too. I feel much better now.
thelion99 12 Posted October 20, 2014 hi norcalkitty, I found it painful a couple of weeks after surgery to bend down at all. Tying shoes counts as bending (in my book, anyway) so give yourself a rest and wear slip-ons so you can heal without pulling your internal sutures. Remember, the VSG also requires multiple rows of staples (at least that's the way my surgeon did it - three rows) so it could very possibly be that you 'tweaked' your surgeon's work. Take care, take it easy, and you'll be good to go in no time. Best of luck!
scootergirl 118 Posted October 30, 2014 I am about a year out from surgery. The area around my largest incision is often tender even now. If my belt should bind me near the old incision or I get poked by the dog, etc. it can be quite uncomfortable. I feel like I may have a small hernia. Check with your doctor at one of your follow up appointments. My pain is less frequent and less intense now than just after surgery but it has never gone away completely. I would call it tolerable discomfort as long as I protect the incision site from irritations.
norcalkitty 29 Posted October 30, 2014 The pain still tweaks at me. less acute but I still have moments of burning and pain. Thank you for letting me know
