Unflavored protein powder?

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking of getting some unflavored Protein Powder to put in various foods. Does it change the consistency? Taste? Overall quality? Any help would be appreciated.

Dear, I wish I could lie to you but I'm going to tell you the straight up truth. I've been "gifted" with a few Protein powders for the last few weeks. Not one of them has been flavored. I honestly thought it was a coincidence until I began to try them. They aren't amazing. Or good. They were a stellar disappointment. I mean, all that free Protein powder! Useless! Now I know why they gave me half full containers! :)

When I put some in flavored greek yogurt it changed the texture and had some Gummy clumps. I also put it in apple cinnamon oatmeal. Both the oatmeal and the yogurt had a very distinct protein taste. I think it's something I can overcome and learn to eat, but I don't think I will learn to enjoy it.

I bought unflavored Protein powder prior to my surgery and never really used it because it was awful. And I'm pretty much ok with most protein powders. I could NOT do the unflavored though. I tried it in oatmeal, applesauce, greek yogurt, crystal light and I just couldn't stomach it. I ended up tossing it in the trash.

Try mixing the unflavored Protein powder in with 12-16 oz of chicken, beef , or vegetable broth/stock and drink it like you would a shake.........its not the greatest but it is doable

GENEPRO http://www.musclegen.net/ .... this is oderless and tasteless and does not clump. You can add it to hot or cold....or just sprinkle over your food. This stuff is great. One tablespoon equals a scoop of whey and has 30 grams of Protein. It is approved by John Hopkins and has 96% absorbtion. You can also order it from Amazon. I fix Crystal Light Lemonade and add a scoop. i have added it to coffee, oatmeal, salad....etc. I am on my fourth bag......love it! I cannot stand all the other Protein shakes because of the chaulky taste. I understand you can contact the website and they will send you a sample?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
