Is it like when you try and take a deep breath, everything hurts? That's normal. But if you're short of breath, I don't think that's normal. You want to keep working on the deep breathing the best you can though so you don't get pneumonia. I'm 2 1/2 weeks out and I can deep breath with no pain now.

Wow this is an old thread, but, I'm from Iowa. Just starting my journy, for the second time. I went through the process before, got to month 4 of the 6 month diet and came down with the flu. When the doctor asked me how I've been eating, I stupidly said "I have just been eatting as much as I can keep down" so he wrote that I was noncompliant with the diet. I was devestated. I had lost 10 pounds that month, and with one word, I was put back at the very beginning of the process. I gave up for a very long time, and now I'm back, ready to make the first step. I'm 60 pounds heavier than I was the day of my first consultation with Dr. Glascock in Cedar Falls. I have my appointment with my PCP on friday. I will get my referral then. I also am hoping she will will out month 1 of my 6 month diet forms (I have them all printed out and the long patient history form all filled out)

Tammy, how did you like the program there in Mason? I was thinking of going there. I'm in the beginning stages of this journey, just getting started on my 6 month diet.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
