Are you going to tell everyone that you're having WLS? Or will you just tell a select few? Or are you keeping it all to yourself and your Dr?

Tell us why or why not! :)

I've pretty much just told those who asked how I lost weight, I never kept out the fact that I've had WLS. I also never keep out that I've revised 2x also. If I can help one person struggling to see that WLS works then it is well worth all the negativity I might get otherwise. This is why I always preach to others that: "I've learned.... That being kind is more important than being right."

Tell fewer people than you feel you want to. You may tell more later. Can't undo it. And people blab. I did not want opinions tossed my way.

I work in a VERY gossipy workplace. I chose not to tell anyone at work, not even my best friend. I told my family, and 2 friends. That's it. Nobody needs to know my business. They all know I am working toward being healthier, but no one needs to know details.

I have told 5 people. Two of them have had WLS, one is overseas with weight issues herself and won't be talking to anyone else I know and the other two are people I can trust not to talk and who are sympathetic despite never having had weight problems themselves.

I have a part -time job and when I needed (unpaid) time off just said I was having a 'minor op' and no-one asked what it was.

Initially I didn't intend telling anyone else that I had surgery but unfortunately I continued to have pain for longer than I anticipated so it was obvious that there was something wrong with me and people started asking what happened. So I said that I'd had a hiatus hernia repair - which is true, because that was done at the same time - and just omitted mention of WLS.

I might let more people know farther down the line when my weight loss becomes much more noticeable - but to be honest my weight has always fluctuated dramatically with ordinary dieting and I don't think it's anyone's business but mine how I've achieved the weight loss. I have never discussed my dieting regimes with other people anyway - I think it's a very boring topic best avoided as it only draws attention to the whole issue.

I'm telling nobody from work, even those who are close friends.

I told my family members who I know love me unconditionally and will support me.

I told my four best friends, none of who know each other or any of my other friends because they're all from past lives and so there's no chance of any leaks there.

I told my guy because he lives with me and will be taking care of me.

I may add to this later, but right now, this is it. (I'm scheduled for 11/4)

Told everyone

They brothers

Friends

Sisters

Friends of friends of friends

Strangers

Best friends

Coworkers

Friends of coworkers

Posted it on Facebook ! As public!

You know what I learned? Real friends are supportive. The non supportive ones or negative nellys were always against you and wanted you fat

Misery loves company

They're no longer in my life and I have to say I am so much happier for it!!

Sometimes you lose relationships on this journey and I have. Kept the best ones and the ones that matter the rest left and took a lot of drama inducing bs with them

I have told close friends and family and colleagues who I will need support from. I plan to tell anyone who asks, but I won't just bring it up out of the blue.

Pre-op? Probably only those who will be directly effected (not much of anyone that I can think of currently) or who I will be calling on to help me immediately post-op (a VERY few people!).

Once I have the surgery done and I have found my rhythm? Probably most anyone that specifically asks, to be honest. I've never been any good at keeping things to myself.

So far, I've told about four friends. As for family, only my daughter who lives with me knows. I'm NOT telling the rest of my friends and family. I'm the "fat" one and I have never felt my family's support when it comes to my attempts to lose weight (except my father and he's a worrywart).

I told my family and friends before surgery. Afterwards I've told anyone that asked how I lost weight. I just wouldn't feel comfortable letting people think I did it with diet and exercise alone. I've had lots of positive support, some jealousy (in a friendly, casual way, no offense taken) and at least two people have had WLS themselves after hearing about mine.

I'm telling my DH and BFF, that's it. Not even my kids. No one else's business and I don't want to be the subject of gossip or deal with any negativity.

I have started a blog and was worried about my co-workers finding out because I haven't really mentioned it. They know I've been seeing a dietician and going to support groups but I must admit I'm scared.

But my family knows and are mostly supportive now that they see how much my health has improved!

I've only told my fiancé. I am afraid of being judged, people whispering about me, or thinking that my weight loss doesn't really count because it was surgical.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
