Hi guys!

I'm planning to take Gas-X strips (I had a laparoscopic surgery about 10 years ago and they definitely helped, even though my GI tract wasn't involved at all), and thinking maybe a compression wrap? Like the kind they recommend for c-section patients? Two friends that had their surgery in Mexico recommended taking your own liquid Maalox, and they also said that they took their own Lortab and crushed it up for pain control. When I wrote to my surgeon and asked about that, he said "We don't give out narcotics like candy here like they do in America." So, um, yeah. I'll be taking my own Lortab.

Who are you guys taking to Mexico with you?

Becca

My husband is coming with me. He is a paramedic so feel I will be getting good emotional care plus a back-up on medical care. LOL @@Becca R.- who is your surgeon? Tijuana? Good tips about pain meds - think I will be checking with my surgeon.

@ my surgeon is Dr. Ramos-Kelly. He does surgeries at Hospital Nova and Angeles. I had chosen Nova (which is more like a big surgical center than a hospital) but now I'm debating. Which hospital are you going to? Tijuana?

I love that your husband is a paramedic. Which I could convince my brother-in-law that's an anesthesiologist to come with me as my support person. ;)

It's all starting to feel real to me today. I went to World Market and bought espresso cups to be my new drink mugs and tiny bowls and plates to be my dinnerware. I'm hoping that by having dishes I can fill, I will also be able to recognize the "all full!" signals. Also working on some visuals to put on my fridge for pre and post-op diets. Ugh. I'm getting to the nervous point and just need this to be behind me!!

How do people react when you guys tell them that you're going to Mexico for this?

So, I have a friend who has already been through the surgery in Mexico, so she is my source. She suggested the following things: Gas-X strips, bringing a fan (not sure if I'll get this through the airport but I'm going to try) It's hot in the hospital she said, a pillow for counter pressure on your way home, asking for the strength and kind of pain meds you want for going home (she wish she had something a little stronger), Know that there is a Subway that delivers to the hospital for your other half.

As far as Protein shakes go, I buy mine from Wal-mart. They are called six star pro nutrition drinks. They are delicious! I love both the chocolate and the french vanilla. What I also love about the product is they are Lactose-free because I am Lactose intolerant. I've thought about getting creative with them like using a food processor to add fruit to the french vanilla one or take a tsp. of decaffeinated coffee, add it to the vanilla and pour it over ice to make ice coffee which I love.

How's everyone doing today??

I'd love to hear, from each of you, what your Dream Goal is for this surgery. I think we all have this surgery for different reasons, and have some different hopes and expectations. So--in your wildest dreams--what would you get out of this surgery?

For me:

I currently weigh 249. I am so happy and healthy at 160, but my DREAM?? 145. I would love to weigh 145 pounds and be able to zip up my wedding dress one more time.

Your turn!!

@@Becca R. Whoa! Our goals are very similar. My highest weight was 290+ but I got down to 217 on a very strict diet. In two years I got back up to 260 and decided to make a permanent change with my 29th birthday approaching. I always felt if I could not reach a healthy weight by my 30th birthday it would become impossible. I'm down 10 pounds on the pre-op diet so far so I'm currently 250. I have a series of goal weights. Under 200 (duh, everyone wants to see ONEderland), 190 (total 100 pounds lost since my highest), 180 (my one year goal weight) and 160 (my ultimate goal weight).

Less than two weeks until my surgery. I'm starting to get really nervous but I know it's what I need to do. :-)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
