@Revgirl--woohoo for your preop diet! How's it going so far?

I don't have to start until this Friday, but I'm doing two Protein shakes a day and just not being as careful about dinner as I will need to be later this week. My doctor is only recommending an all liquid diet for two days pre-surgery, but I'm thinking I will make it a week to be safe. What is your regimen?

Less than 3 weeks for me. Holy nervous, Batman! Anyone else feeling jittery?

Scheduled for November 17th. Getting occasional jitters. Even though not required as early, I plan to start liquid diet on November 1st. I am having a small hernia repair and gallbladder removed as well as my sleeve. My husband will be with me. Prayers for all of us to have safe travels, successful surgeries and rapid recoveries.

Ahhhh, an air gap. Can't imagine getting there but would love to dream that I could. Right now my thighs rub together and wear out the inside seams of my jeans! Note the air gap in this picture! Hehee.

My surgery is 4 weeks from tomorrow. YIKES! I am starting my PRE-pre-op regime of doing 2-3 shakes plus a salad with Protein for dinner. I think getting a jump on it will be good for me mentally. Had an appointment with my doctor who is going to monitor me post-op. She gave me a prescription for Zofran melts and liquid Lortab for post-surgery. I am so relieved about getting that in place. She even gave me her cell phone number to call when I get home if I am having any problems being that I get home on a Friday. I am not going to have any problems but it sure is nice to know I have someone I can call if needed. I'm not getting nervous yet - more excited than anything. Hoping the IV nurse is gentle because I DO NOT like IVs. I read an interesting blog on another site about the equipment not being the most up to date for blood draws and the hospital is clean but not the kind of clean we might expect. That is the first negative I have heard about equipment and cleanliness. How about you guys???

#49: My pre-op diet is going well. I actually started it two weeks early and try to walk 1/2 mile every day. I've lost 13 pounds. My regiment from the Dr. is liquid diet 1day before surgery. Not sure I'll do that any earlier as it makes me weak and moody. Need to keep my strength for the long travels. Going from East coast to West coast. My typical day is Protein Shake for Breakfast and lunch and salad with Protein for dinner. If I'm still hungry I'll do either a Protein Bar at bed time or a cup of hot tea with benefiber in it. I've also bought a food processor. Occasionally I'll mix fruit in with my vanilla Protein Drinks or mix Decaf coffee in with it and drink it over ice. I like variety.

Okay, guys. Today is the first day that I've felt really nervous. Starting to wonder if I can REALLY do this. I begin my two week pre-op diet ON Halloween, which isn't a big deal, but my son is being baptized on Saturday and knowing that I will be facing my first real challenge that day. Knowing that I will need to say the first of MANY "No, thank you"s at his celebration. I guess it's just hitting me.

Has it hit you guys yet? How are you dealing with the emotional side of this??

It gets easier. I had to do a 4 week pre-op and my surgery is this Monday. After you say no a few times and just enjoy the activities without food you realize life doesn't revolve around food, it revolves around people and events.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
