The reality is scary. Sooner Sx date.. Last meal?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

My evaluation was submitted to my surgeon today. The doctor's office called me to schedule my surgery for later THIS month. I was told originally that it would be late next month.. They were shooting for Nov 20th. Now they want to complete the surgery for later this month. Shooting for the 30th of October.. Reality just sunk in and all the sudden I don't feel ready. Is it wrong to schedule a "cheating" day by having a "last meal" before my surgery date? Do many people do this? I know and understand I will be able to eat again, I just want one last meal.. What are your thoughts?

Of course people schedule a "last supper"! I found out on a Wednesday that my surgery (band) would be the following Wednesday. We went out that night to our favorite pizza place so I could start the liquid diet right after.

Totally normal. Don't go crazy but treat yourself. The pre- and post- surgical diets are a long slog. Start it off with a good memory.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I am awfully scared now.. :/ I think I will plan my last dinner. Should I do it right before sx or before I start my liquid pre-sx diet?

I would do it before you start the liquid diet. They really don't want you to have any solid food in your system when they operate, so I personally wouldn't risk breaking your pre-surgical diet with a big blow-out meal.

Sorry for the confusion. I meant I have to do the pre-op diet for 10 days, should I do it before I start that OR should I do it a few days before surgery? That way I am getting a great break from the 10 days of pre-op diet.. Thanks again for answering. I appreciate you very much.

You should do it the night before your 10 day pre op diet.

Haha. My date was set earlier than I was mentally ready for too. But I'm not going to pass up an earlier opportunity.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
