Hi! I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Robin and I live in Parker, Colorado. I am taking the first steps in my Lap Band journey. I have Kaiser insurance and the first step is getting a physical, blood work, and sending in a form to see if I qualify. My PCP updated my file and after my blood work comes back he is going to finish up the paper work and send it in! My BMI was 47 and with the asthma and PCOS, I hope this will be enough to qualify. I don't know how long it will be before I hear anything, hopefully not too long. I know with Kaiser from the time you qualify until the actual surgery is around a year, so I know I have a long road ahead of me, but I'm excited to get started. I am also excited to get to know everyone on this board, hear stories, etc. Is anyone else from Colorado? Also, has anyone else gone through Kaiser for their Lap Band? If so, I would love to hear about your experience.

Hello Robin....welcome to LBT...this is a great place to be...You can get so much info...if it is before your surgery, or after....everyone is really great .....lots of good caring people....welcome to the site...and congratulations on your new journey....

I am Diann from Texas....I was banded on 4/6/07 and have lost 27 lbs...I will get my first fill on 5/17/07...so as you can see, I have not been banded to long...I was a self-pay..so I went in on Monday and started two week liquid diet on that Friday and had surgery two weeks later...when you self pay, you don't have to wait for long..they get you in and boom, it is done...So glad that I was banded....I couldn't be happier....

Once again....welcome....

Nice to meet you guys! I was told that if the doctor approves the surgery it is 100% covered, so I know I am very lucky. Your stats are awesome! Keep up the great work!

Pookie - Welcome! I am a fellow Kaiser member from CA. From what I was told, we Californians can get the band and it takes 3 to 6 months. I too have just started this but that is what the Bariactric Surgery Department told me. I have my orientation date on June 5th.

I wanted to let you know that shermy58 is from Colorado Springs. I don't know how far she is from you but perhaps she can give you some insights as to how it works out there.

Keep us posted on how your journey goes. I hope this helps.

Hey Pookie--I'm Connie from Pueblo--welcome to LBT. I hope everything works out well for you. If you go to the Colorado page, there is a thread there with several of us in Colorado--in fact, we are trying to plan a get-together this summer in Denver, so we'd love to have you. Not everyone there is banded yet, either. Welcome!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! I am very anxious to get started with everything. I am just hoping my PCP has sent in my paperwork. I think I'll double check with him next week to make sure it's not just sitting in a pile on his desk or something! I know all of my blood work came back good - glucose, thyroid, & cholesterol. Now it's just time for the waiting game..............

Welcome Pookie,

I live in SE Centennial, we live fairly close to each other. I live close to the new Mall at Southlands. Sounds like you might live close to Woofay, I think she said she lives an hour from Parker. My surgery is tomorrow at noon!!! Getting nervous....I hope your insurance goes through. We have a GREAT group here in Colorado! I usually post in the Dr. Kirshenbaum thread, there are alot of Coloradoans there!

Wow I have not even started to look for a doctor yet. I am just starting to research it. I have tricare though so I don't know if it would be covered. I just know that I need help!

How long it the pre process after you decide this is what I want to do?

I had my Dr. Consult April 9th, and made a surgery date for May 18th! I could of had May 7th, but I really wanted a Friday date to heal over the weekend. I am a self payer, so I didn't have to go through the ins. stuff.

I wish you the best! Let us know how things go and stick around, this is the best place for advice and support!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
