About me (11months post op)----with photos

Recommended Posts

I am 5'5 and 29 years old. I had surgery on November 7, 2013. I am a few weeks away from my 1 year post op date.

I started at 260 pounds. 11 months out I am now 165.

5 pounds away from 100 pound loss. I really wanted to hit that by my one year, but honestly I just don't see it happening. The past few months, I have been stalled at 165-166-167. I just can't get out of those numbers.

I really thought by 1 year I would be a lot smaller than 165........ Just kinda disappointed. I am also disappointed in clothing size. I can wear a 12 at American Eagle. 12 is still BIG. 12 is still at the higher end of the clothing sizes (before you move into plus size)...... I can wear a Large shirt at American Eagle. I know there are lots of people out there who would love to be those sizes, but I just thought going to the extreme of surgery would increase my chances of being smaller and getting into smaller sizes of clothes.

I just still feel big.......still feel the same......still consider myself "bigger" in crowds..... I constantly compare myself to others and think about how I am still larger than they are..... I am just feeling bad lately about myself. I feel like a disapointment and maybe that I didn't do too well during this past year.

My husband of 7 years is 164 pounds.... He wears a Medium/Large Mens shirt and 32 jeans..... neither of these come close to fitting me. I am dreaming of the day I can wear his jacket or that he can give me a piggy back ride in a photo! I just feel like maybe this is the end.... 166 is where I will be..... :(

It took me 14 months to lose 150. I had to work pretty hard to get the last 30-40 pounds off... went low carb and did high intensity interval training.

You don't have to give up and stop here...but it does sometimes take a refocus to get to goal!

Same emotional battlefield here. My one year is coming up in December and I am thankfully sixty-five pounds lighter and in better health overall. But it seems like no matter how big I am, I am not as big as I think I am. You know, I guess I will just keep working it. I have no intention of losing ground. The only pressure I feel is what I put on myself.

I have the feeling that even when I reach goal, I will still be beating myself up for something. This is not only a physical journey, it is very much an emotional journey as well. I know with my knower that when I come out the other side of this dark cocoon of a tunnel, I will be a lovely happy butterfly enjoying the freedom of not being held down by 100 extra pounds.

Cowgirljane, thatnks for your comment. You always cheer me up!

Honey, u look awesome. U should be so proud of yourself. Have u talked to your NUT to see if you change up your diet will it help jump start a little more weght loss? I was informed u can lose weight up to three years, it just will slow down. U shouldn't beat yourself up and stop comparing yourself to others. I truly understand how u are feeling. I was 398lbs at my heaviest. I lost 120lbs on my own. I always saw me being 398 when i looked in the mirror. That was because my mind had accept the fact i would probably always be the size so i couldn't see me being anything else. This wasnt is still isnt health thinking for you are myself. You are a strong woman otherwise you wouldn't have made it as far as you have on your journey. This is a lifetime change of lifestyle, so u still are living and will continue to make changes???? good luck my friend!

Thanks everyone for your kind words!! I just hope someday I get to a number and be happy. Not wish I was lower or constantly feel bad about my loss so far. It makes things hard when I read all the posts about "lost 100 pounds in six months!! hit my goal 3 months later!!! Size 26 to a size 6!!!" (examples) Cowgirl Jane- thank you for sharing that it took you longer than the year to lose the weight you needed to. I guess I felt like I was almost to hit the one year and this was going to be it. Congrats on your loss!! That is amazing!! I think you are right about refocus. Back to Protein shakes.... time to put some effort into it and work for the rest.... I have been lucky so far and have lost just by the little portions, but I think its time to focus and eat healthy and lose the rest. Thank you all for the pickmeup's today and to get me back on track!!! I am so glad I came to this site today ( I havent logged in since early spring).... I appreciate you all taking time to give me that push!!

You look amazingly beautiful and there is nothing big about you. But down 65 lbs, I understand, I still feel like the big girl here, regardless of people telling me how amazing and slim I look. Congrats, keep up the good work!!! Don't fret about the other mini lbs you have to go, they will go down eventually. Hey, you've come a loooooong way so embrace it!

I too am stuck on a plateau .I have been 187-189 forever.I can wear smaller pants than tops due to my body shape. Although I have lost over 100 lbs., I sometimes still feel huge. It is hard because I should know I won't transform into a petite girl. My shoulders are broad and even if I lose 40 more lbs. I will never been teeny tiny. I am trying to focus on my cardio and workouts but sometimes I feel like a big old Amazon, surrounded by friends and family that are size 2's. I have to limit my weigh ins to once a week or I get super down for the whole day. Also, I have learned to really find clothing styles that flatter my body. The right cut and style for body type can make you feel and look slimmer. Don't be so hard on yourself. You look beautiful!

You are gorgeous!!! This is your journey and no one else’s… there is no winner if you get to your goal in 6 months or a year etc… You should be so super proud of yourself! Honey, you are HOT!!! I wish I was a “slower” loser… my skin is OK but I think if I lost it a little slower it wouldn’t feel lose… (not sure if that makes sense) it doesn’t look bad… it just feels weird…

Anyway, pat yourself on the back for what you have achieved… I agree with Cow Girl Jane, it doesn’t have to stop at your one year… this is a life time commitment. But I think you look really good! Good luck!!!

You look stunning and slim and very beautiful. I'm sure if you want to, you can lose more weight, but I don't think you should be at all disappointed with where you are at this moment. You are not "big" and you've made great progress! You need to take those fat glasses off!

hi cutie ;)

those thoughts you have - GET OVER IT

95 lbs down is great :)

lovely pics :)

"ONLY" 5 lbs over goal you are bummed :(

you still have 3 weeks to loose a couple more lbs by your surgiversary

it is a understandable "mental" thing that you want to be at your "official" goal for your surgiversary'

if you loose those 5 lbs is great

but if it takes a longer thats ok too

if it never happens - you r still amazing :)

stalls happen

be happy/proud of your succses :)

I'm happy for you :)

continued success for the rest of your healhier, happier, longer life :)

you are aces!!!

kathy

congrats

I'm sure you're going to hear from a lot of people how FANTASTIC you look but I also understand that it's about how you feel. But on that note, wow! The last picture of you and your husband (you're in the black and white outfit) is really something! I'm 19 days post-op and I can't WAIT to look like you! But, again, I understand where you're coming from. We all went into this with an image of what we think we're going to look like. If it's any consolation at all, you do look great and you and your (very cute!) husband make an adorable couple! :)

@jenjo11072013I think it is amazing how far you have come in just under a year. look at those pictures.... they say it all. go to the gym and pick up a couple of 50# barbells and walk around for a few minutes..... feel that weight. that extra weight in your hands is where you were just a year ago. freakin' amazing. you'll get there. keep your motivation and attitude on high. hang in there and CONGRATS.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
