My 15 day liquid pre-op diet starts tomorrow. It's basically all Protein shakes, flavored Water. Allowed to have 2 Snacks a day of either: yogurt, pudding, jello or creamed Soup. Capped at 1000 calories a day.

Question for liquid dieters --- "creamed soup"??? What exactly is that? I'm thinking that means like Cream of Broccoli, Cream of Celery, Cream of Mushroom. Right? I bought a few but thought, this is odd. They're so high in sodium and like 1 gram of Protein. Why would this be on the list? Just wondering if there were any other brilliant ideas of what you've tried as creamed Soups. Thank you!

I am so jealous! I'm starting my Pre-Op diet in 10 days and it consists of:

-4-6 Boost Diabetic

-Water

-Flavored Water as long as it's no calorie.

That's it for FOUR weeks! I'm beginning to think my surgeon is trying to torture me lol

I am actually going to email my team and ask of I can have homemade chicken stock without salt to cut all the sweet through out the day. Or maybe even juicing vegetables too, as long as I stay under the 1200 calorie a day target.

We will see! Good luck guys! You can do it!!

Sheena :-)

So my response from my Surgical Team to have broth or juiced vegetables was "Absolutely Not! Boost Diabetic and water ONLY!"

Yikes! I'm on day 3 and it's okay so far... I would just love something warm like broth or tea to cut the sweet.

But this is only a small blip of time in my life, and I can do this!

Good luck everyone!

Sheena :-)

It's weird how different the surgeons diets are mine was bars or shakes. I lost 15lbs on my diet and the surgeon said my liver was a little large still but that will continue to improve u mean he could tell by my weight loss I stuck to it. So I don't think there are any guarantees. I'll pray for you! It's just 2 weeks you can do this!!!

I know what you mean, wanting to cut the taste of sweets. I'm allowed broth and it very much does what you say. Odd suggestion but maybe try heating up Water or the flavored water so it will seem like tea?

You CAN do this. Yes, I hear all sorts of variations from different surgeons. My best friend had this in July at another hospital but same network. She only had to do liquids a couple days before. However, she was also constantly scared that last week about gaining weight. I knew, going on 2 week liquid, there's no danger of that :-)

You've got this - you can do it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
